OEE Review
OEE measures the percentage of planned production time that is truly
productive i.e. that was used to make good parts.
Availability * Quality * Performance
Availability = Running Time / Available Time
The percentage of available time that was actually used to make parts.
Quality = (Total Parts Scrap Parts) / Total Parts
The percentage of total parts that were good.
Performance = (Total Parts * Ideal Cycle Time) / Running Time
The ratio of how long it should have taken the asset to make the parts
versus how long it actually took, according to design or historical best.

OEE Calculation

The amount of time it SHOULD have taken us to make the good parts as a
percentage of our scheduled available time if everything ran according to design.

OEE v. TEEP
TEEP = Total Effective Equipment Performance
Measures OEE against calendar hours
24 hours a day, every day, all year

Time is a totalizer in OEE
OEE measures how efficiently the asset is being utilized based on what
percent of the scopes total available time went towards making good
product, accounting for changes in production rate, during the
scheduled production time.
What if we wanted to know how efficiently we are utilizing:
Energy
Water
Air
Gas
Steam

We can apply ANY totalizer to replace the time component of OEE.

Mapping OEE Concepts to OEEE*
Quality = Good parts as a percentage of total parts.
Availability = Productivity: the percentage of productive energy to total energy
Available time = Total Energy consumed during time period
Running time = Productive Energy
Energy consumed while in a productive state
NOT Idle, Blocked, Starved, Faulted, Down, etc.
Performance = The amount of energy it SHOULD have taken us to make the
total parts if everything worked as designed as a percentage of how much
energy we actually spent making good parts.
Ideal cycle time = Energy Intensity
Minimum historical energy consumed per part

*U.S. Patent Pending

OEEE Simplified
OEEE measures the percentage of consumed energy that was used to
make good product.
Availability * Quality * Performance
Availability = Productive Energy / Total Energy
Quality = (Total Parts Scrap Parts) / Total Parts
Performance = (Total Parts * Ideal Energy Intensity) / Productive Energy

OEEE can account for ALL of the energy consumed, like TEEP, or, if
possible, only the scheduled energy consumed, like OEE.

Productive Energy
Energy consumed while making product.
Asset is running AND NOT in an idle/starved/blocked/faulted/down state.

PUBLIC Rockwell Automation TechED 2017 @ROKTechED #ROKTechED Copyright 2017 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 13
Ideal Energy Intensity
The minimum amount of energy required to make one part.
Assets design specification.
Historical minimum.
Calculation.
