SOLs: Oral language


2.2 The student will expand understanding and use of word meanings.
o a) Increase listening and speaking vocabularies.
o b) Use words that reflect a growing range of interests and knowledge.
o c) Clarify and explain words and ideas orally.
o d) Identify and use synonyms and antonyms.
o e) Use vocabulary from other content areas.
Implementation:
Do workbook page (pg 32)
Each box gives you the first letter or couple letters of the word
What word should go in each box?
Do first two sentences together as a class
Make sure to check off each word as it is used
Students do all of the others independently
Check answers when all are finished
There are three words that end in zz that you did not use in the sentences above
What is one of them?
Do first together as a class
Students do the other two independently
Check answers when all are finished
Play hangman
Each group gets to have a turn playing
Go from teammate to teammate allowing them to guess one letter at a time
If they can finish the word before the hangman has a head, body, two arms, and two legs
then their team gets $10
If they finish the hangman before they finish the word, then a volunteer from one of the
other groups can finish the word to win their team $5
