o e) Use vocabulary from other content areas.

Implementation:
Introduce new spelling words
o Have a powerpoint with a picture of each word on the slides and have students guess
which word goes with which picture, then have them spell it
Because this is the first day they will be working with these words, they will have
their workbook beside them to look at if they need help spelling the word

Do workbook page (pg 29) as a class
o What sound does an s make?
o What sound does a z make?
o Put s or z in front of the picture if its name begins with the sound, and after the picture
if its name ends with the sound
Go over the names for each picture
Do the first one together
Students do the rest independently
Check answers when everyone is done
o Write the beginning AND ending sounds you hear

They have the same ending letters or sounds

If there is still time after reviewing each word and doing the workbook page, have students play
sparkle with the new words to help practice spelling
