Introduction

A resistorcapacitor circuit (RC circuit), or RC filter or RC network, is an electric circuit composed of


resistors and capacitors driven by a voltage or current source. A first order RC circuit is composed of one
resistor and one capacitor and is the simplest type of RC circuit. Charge transport behaviour in various
complex systems, including battery anodes and fuel cells can be described using models of many-
element RC networks.

The differential equation for the series RC circuit shown in Fig. 1 with the switch in position 1 is given by
Kirchhoffs Voltage Law

Let = where is maximum charge in the capacitor, therefore: ()+()=0

Conclusion
This experiment was helpful in examining the transient response of the RC circuit in terms of the
voltage and current. In addition we have learned how to use the oscilloscope to analyze nad
compare the voltages and currents.
