Welcome & acknowledgment of country

Good morning everyone!

Before we officially open todays carnival we would like to acknowledge this land that
we meet on today is the traditional land for Kaurna people, and that we respect their
spiritual relationships with their country. We also acknowledge the Kaurna people as
the custodians of the Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are
still as important to the living Kaurna people today.
On behalf of the team here at flinders it is my great pleasure to officially welcome
you all to the 2017 AFL 9s sporting carnival. I would like to extend a warm welcome
to Christies Downs (applause/cheer), Edwardstown Primary (applause/cheer) and
Warradale Primary (applause/cheer) and to all teachers, parents, guest speakers,
sponsors and staff.
The purpose of today is to provide a safe environment where students can learn the
importance of recreation and physical activity through AFL 9s.
AFL 9s is a non contact version of football and the carnival is built upon a
philosophy where; students will be able to experience fun through footy, social skills
and inclusive play for all.

There will be a few things that I will go through today.
