Southland Primary Schools Athletics
Congratulations to Darnae, Matt, Rayvin, Abby, Kaiah, Ellie, Brooke-Biahn, Amelia, Cory, Caleb and Leihlani who all
represented Phoenix Zone at the Southland Primary Schools Athletics at Surrey Park on Saturday. Every child qualifying
for this Southland Primary Schools event should be very proud of themselves and their great sportsmanship they are a
credit to the zone.
Special recognition goes to the following students who were placed in the top 8 in the finals.
Darnae Lowe-McPherson 5th in 100m and 5th in 60m 8 year girls
Caleb Ryan 3rd in the high jump 9 year boys
Matt Johnson 7th place in shot-put 9 year boys
Rayvin Pauli 4th place in shotput 10 year boys
Cory Russell 6th place high jump 10 year boys
Brooke-Biahn Bradshaw 6th place in high jump 11 year girls.
This is quite a feat when the competition is Southland wide! Well done everyone!

We talked about the difference between WW1 and WW2 weapons and how they evolved, and how soldiers
defended themselves during the war. Carrying a shovel is a must because they did a lot of digging! We found out
many people died druing the war and the RSA is a place they would come to forget about memories of the war.
Brodie and Shenell.

A wishful piece of Moment in Time writing from Kaiah in Takahe:

As I am walking onto the MCG I can see a field of green, all I can feel is the shaking of my two hands, sweat is running down my face,

Board of Trustees Whanau Consultation
The Board of Trustees are consulting families about the curriculum areas they will be reviewing during the
2015 school year. Getting all this done in one go means we wont have to annoy you throughout the
year. We would really appreciate all forms back at school by Thursday please. Just pop them in the box
in the office. Thanks!!

Duffy Assembly
Wee hee all got new Duffy Books after the assembly last week! The role
model was Shelley Ryan who works at the RSPCA in Auckland.

We are so lucky to be part of this programme and that our kids get the
choice of such fabulous books! Hopefully there is some great holiday
reading in them.

the scent of fresh air fills my nose.

I stand in my position Lets go! I stutter. Ive gone delusional. All I can see is people and more people.
All of a sudden I hear myself yell Good I am back, as I am saying it in my head. A stroke of pain leaps up my arm. My arm goes numb.
I stand back up this is the last ball, if I dont get this I have let the whole of New Zealand down. All I can see is a man in yellow running
towards me. He throws the ball, it flies towards me like a bird. SMACK! it hits the bat and goes all the way into the crowd.
I look at the screen New Zealand has won!
