SANDIWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER
NUMBER 30 / SUMMER TERM 2015 / WEDNESDAY 24TH JUNE 2015

SANDIWAY SPORTS
A very sport-themed newsle<er this week, with lots to
share with you. As you will be aware, it is one of the
last and current governments aims to increase the
involvement of all children in sport in schools. We
receive a sports grant each year which is ring-fenced
money for the enhancement of sport. As the last two
years have progressed, we have used this money with
increasing eect for the benet of all the children in
the school.
I know many parents have enjoyed sharing the
informaLon on the sports noLce boards and watching
their children at sporLng events. I am very grateful for
the oers of transport to take children to these events.
As a result of all the hard work that has gone on this
year, every child in the school has had a variety of
experiences of sports, movement, dancing and
coaching. This has ranged from country dancing, street
dancing, coaching by PE specialists, compeLLons in
school, compeLLons with local schools and across the
Borough.

AUer a long wait for the scores to be calculated, we

found out that we had won - another rst for
Sandiway!
Some fantasLc individual performances need
menLoning. Alex H was highest ranking boy and Ella
and Esme were rst and second ranking girls
respecLvely. Alex was in fact in rst place overall, with
Ella fourth. Alex, Ella, Esme and Saskia achieved
naLonal Gold standard, while Ben and Liam achieved
Silver standard.
The dream team will now go on to represent us in the
Chester and Warrington School Games!
Tennis
Last Wednesday 8 children from Year 3 took part in a
mini red tennis tournament. There were 24 teams
there. Team A reached the semi nals and Team B
reached the quarter nals. The children played
brilliantly and supported each other superbly all
aUernoon.

It seems there has hardly been a week that goes by

recently where Mr White and Mrs Dimbylow has told
me that we are through to another round in a
compeLLon! Well done to the sta and children!
Sports Reports
Quad Kids
On a blustery June aUernoon, that felt more like
November, twelve schools gathered to compete in the
Quad Kids athleLcs cup. Each child completed a 75m
sprint, 600m, standing long jump and howler throw.
Sandiway, as always, supported each other brilliantly
and performed very compeLLvely despite the weather.

Cricket
We have more compeLLon with a girls team narrowly
losing by 7 runs in the semi-nal. The second team
performed strongly in their group. In mixed Kwik-
Cricket, we also took two teams, one of which has
qualied for the Vale Royal nals, due to set o at Lme
of wriLng, and the second team also fought hard with
excellent teamwork.

Sports Day
Our Health Week last week culminated in a wonderful
sports aUernoon - thank you to all the sta for organising
the event, to all the parents and friends who were able to
support the children and to the children who thoroughly
enjoyed compeLng with each other. Well done to the red
team for winning for the second year.

playground. We would love it if you could come

along to support us; helping us to recycle and reuse
our unwanted items and possibly pick up lots of
bargains too!
And, as we know that you will be so thirsty at the
end of such a long week, there will also be some
mouth-watering ice lollies on sale for just 75p each!
So please come and visit our stalls on Friday and
help us to look aUer our environment and support
our venture - thank you from everybody in Year 4!

OPEN AFTERNOON
Our Open AUernoon is fast approaching as we head
towards July. This is an open invitaLon for you to
come into school to see all the work that your
children have done this year. School will be open to
parents and friends from 1.15pm unLl 3.00pm.
Please come to the front door, where some helpers
will escort you to the correct classroom. You are
then free to take your child and their books to a
place in the school (outside, if the weather is ne) to
look through their work. Your child will also be able
to show you where we have refreshments, which
