Welcome back to another fabulous term of exciting learning opportunities! The students have all experienced Tuning In days to set up their wonderings and discoveries for this terms Inquiry. The Through line is: How do communities (past & present) make decisions and how do these affect peoples lives? UNDERSTANDINGS Invasions, incursions or amalgamations with external communities bring sudden transformations in identity, culture and structure. History is subjective and interpreted via the world view of a community or an individual We can learn from our past and the past of others Students will also be completing a mapping exercise to build their knowledge and understanding of Countries, Capitals, Continents, Wonders of the World, and other significant places of interest. Parents will be used as our audience in the last week of term, to answer our questions at a community Quiz evening! Start studying now! Please mark this date in your diary! Wednesday 5 October@ 7pm Bring your friends, make up teams of 4 Prepare to be challenged by our student designed Quiz evening! $20.00 per team. Entries to Mrs Devine @ admin@salford.school.nz During the term break all of our wonderful staff and our Board Member Chris Cole, attended the I Love Teaching Conference held at Ascot Park Hotel. This was a fabulous two days of professional learning, debate, discussion and inspiration. We, as a whole staff are now planning how we will use our new information and teaching strategies. We are incredibly fortunate to receive generous funding from the Invercargill Licensing Trust for this event. I particularly loved Allie Mooney. She did personality typing which provided much humour amongst the delegates and is a daily source of discussion currently in the staffroom. Her 4 quadrants were Precise, Powerful, Playful and Peaceful! I wonder which one you would put yourself in?

Playful if you do not know what a Playful person wants, it is because they have changed
their mind!

Powerful You will ALWAYS know what a Powerful person wants! Peaceful It is very difficult to know what a Peaceful person wants. Precise If you do not know what a Precise person wants, you have not asked them!
My favourite quote Great minds do NOT think alike HA! I will be away Friday in Wellington at the NZPF meeting. Craig Tucker and I will also accompany the Rippa Rugby Team to Auckland on Sunday the 7th of August, and back Wednesday 10 August. Please contact Mrs Wheeler if you need anything during this time.

Have a fabulous Rugby Weekend!

Marlene
