THURSDAY 21

st
August 2014
EDITION 10/2014

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

A big welcome to all our new families and
students who have joined us over the past
fortnight. We hope you are already feeling
part of the Gladstone community.

The refurbishment of Rooms 5, 6 and 7 is
now complete. Rooms 6 & 7 have moved
just in time for our next intake on Monday.
In the week 1-5 September the relocatables
on the lower court will be removed and we
will have our school back. The working
drawings for the sandpit are currently being
worked on by architect so that will be our
next project.

WALKING SCHOOL BUS MILO
MORNING
Milo and Marshmellow morning Wednesday
27th August for all WSB students only! Walk
with your bus and arrive at school for a nice
warm Milo!

BREAKFAST CLUB
This is a reminder that our school runs a
Breakfast Club in the hall every morning.
Weetbix and milk is provided from 8:15am
until 8:40am daily. All welcome.

BICYCLING TO SCHOOL
Just a reminder that students in Year 4 and
under need to be accompanied to school if
they are riding a bicycle. This rule is for
safety reasons as children 8 years old and
under still have difficulty judging speeds and
still need the guidance of an adult. Thanks
for your help with this.

DONATIONS
Please pay your term 3 donations which are
now due. Thanks to those who have already
paid.
An account has been sent home itemising
details. If there are any compulsory
payments outstanding we would appreciate
you paying them as soon as you can.
For those paying the 2015 camp fees for
years 5 & 6, keep the instalments coming
along.

Confirm any internet payments you make
with details of your childs name and
room number to:
accounts@gladstone.school.nz

STUDENTS WHO MOVE OUT OF THE
GLADSTONE ZONE a message from
the Board of Trustees
We are again publishing our policy for
students who move out of the school
zone. The criteria is outlined below. This
information is also on the school website
so it is clear to prospective parents.

Children enrolling at Gladstone
School must live permanently within
the zone and will be asked to
provide proof of this (a power,
phone or gas bill; a rates demand;
Sale and Purchase or tenancy
agreement).
If a child moves out of zone while
they are attending Gladstone School
please let us know of your change
in circumstance immediately. All
cases will be presented to the Board
of Trustees for discussion and
consideration.
In most instances current students
will be allowed to complete their
education at Gladstone however,
unfortunately siblings will not be
able to be enrolled.

SCIENCE GALA EVENING
September 15th from 5 pm - 7 pm in the
school hall.
All science projects are due at school on the
morning of Monday September 15th before
9 am. Judging takes place that morning and
the hall opens again at 5 pm. The hall will
also be open on Tuesday September 16th
and Wednesday September 17
th
from 9am
to 4pm.
Projects boards are available at Warehouse
Stationery if you wish to purchase one. A
project from 2012 is on display in the
school library.
It has been very exciting to see the range
of experiments and investigations that
children are carrying out. We know that
sometimes the experiment changes after
you have started because Plan A hasn't
quite worked out - that is absolutely fine if
this happens. However if the group

changes or the category changes
(assisted or independent) then please
email Claire
claire@gladstone.school.nz to let me
know so that the judging forms are
correct.

Happy experimenting!

CLASS REPORTS
Room 1, Year 1
Yesterday Ms D came into Room 1 and she
showed us a photo of rotten, gross teeth. I
wouldn't like to have rotten, gross teeth.
Harrison

On Tuesday we learnt about taking care of
our teeth. We need to brush our teeth two
times a day and it was fantastic. Ms D said
to not have too many lollies.
Yelena

On Tuesday we learnt about brushing our
teeth. Ms D came to teach us about
brushing our teeth. I learnt that if you eat
lots of lollies then your teeth will get lots of
holes. I said Oh disgusting!
Emma

On Tuesday Ms D came to Room 1. I learnt
that if you eat too many sweets you will get
plaque on your teeth and you will get holes
in your teeth. We watched a video about
teeth. There were plaque monsters. Dont
eat too many lollies!

Aquarium
I saw a large aquarium in the pet shop. I
can see a ship as broken as a broken skull.
I can see colourful plants all over the
aquarium. I see a treasure chest by a rock
as muddy as a stunt car driving in the mud.
I heard echoing water moving. I heard
bubbling water popping. I felt smooth
seaweed moving and a rocky volcano. I can
smell the salt from Nemo and the plants. I
can smell fish food all over the fish tank.
Ian Li

Theme Parks
I rocketed under the vehicle entrance
in the sonic glide and all sorts of
rides appeared. I got ejected high
and I had a better view. In the
middle of the theme park I could
even see an underwater
rollercoaster! Some flight simulators
lay in the middle of the theme park.
A Formula One racing simulator
looped around the outside. Sonic
booms echoed in every corner
without sound resistance walls.
Screams came next. Electro-zappers
buzzed and fizzed with electricity. A
rocket roared and the smell of
burning rubber filled the air.
