Dear Parents,
MESSAGE OF THE WEEK
th
We hope you have a lovely half term holiday over the next two weeks. School will reopen on Thursday 9 June.

JULY 8
TH
JULY
Last year we successfully hosted a group of Chinese pupils at our school and have been asked to do this again this July.
This was a really positive experience last year expressed by all families and children who befriended our guests and
accommodated them. This was a new experience for our school and it seemed to have very encouraging impact on
our children and our guests. We are hoping that we can again accommodate 15 Chinese pupils with families from our
school in Years 4, 5 and 6. Our guests will be 10-11 year old children and they will have varying levels of English
language. Many parents who looked after our Chinese guests last year loved the experience and expressed how much
fun their families got from it. There is a slip attached to this newsletter to let you show an interest in offering a place
to stay for a week for our guests. Once you have made us aware of your interest, further information will follow.
Many thanks to those parents who have already replied to us offering a place for them to stay. I will provide you with
further details in June nearer to their arrival.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHILDS PROGRESS
On our website you can watch two videos that help you use our assessment system. By doing this, you can keep in
touch with the progress your child is making and look at their attainment. Hopefully this will be an easy process to
keep you aware. Visit our website at www.wldps.com and find the tab for Learning where you will see Online
Assessments Explained. Here you will find two videos. The first is very short and the second is about 10 minutes to
enable you to get the most of this information which is now available. A parent session can be made available if you
feel this necessary after having watched the training.
CHOIR VISIT TO BLACKPOOL
th
The concert will take place on Friday 24 June at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Tower on 0871 2229929 or
through their website www.theblackpooltower.com/event/1388/sing-together.aspx . It is listed under Sing
Together. Tickets are 6 each (under 2s free) with a family ticket at 20 (2 + 2). The doors will open at 6.50pm,
allowing people to have a look round before the concert. Please return your forms letting me know if you are
intending to go as we have only 6 replies currently. Unfortunately, if there are not enough forms returned, we will be
unable to perform as a choir.
EMAIL ADDRESSES - URGENT
As half term approaches we intend to stop delivering newsletters by paper. Please ensure your email address is with
us as important dates and information regarding school routine, learning and educational visits may very likely be
missed in the future. A few copies of the Wednesday Weekly will be made available in the front entrance of the
school each week. If you have not yet sent us your email address please complete the slip below or send your email
address to shodgson@wldps.com.

QUEENS 90
TH
Please join us in celebrating the Queens 90th birthday with a tea party on Friday 10th June 3.15pm to 5.15pm,
straight after the end of the school day. There will be a number of activities and games for the children to enjoy with
refreshments available. The PTFA would greatly appreciate a donation of a full size cake that could be served with a
cup of tea/coffee. To be entered into a draw please bring in along with your cake the paper plate that was sent home
yesterday with your childs name and class on the back. These cakes can be brought to school on the morning of the
tea party. We hope to see as many of you as possible.
CLASS BLOGS
For your information, if you wish to follow your class blog, you can access this through the school website as usual or
through searching www.wldps.com/CLASSNAME e.g. wldps.com/elephant. This information is as a result to
improvements that have been made to our own website.
PARENT/CARERS INTERNET SAFETY TRAINING
th
Training is being provided for any interested parents at Lostock Hall Academy on Wednesday 8 June at 6pm in the
main hall. In an age where many of us learn about new technology from our children themselves, this will aim to raise
parental awareness of the risks posed to your children online.
SWIMMING NEXT YEAR
Owing to financial restraints within the schools budget, a decision has had to be made that swimming lessons will be
provided to children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 only next year.
SWIMMING
We would like to ask parents in Nursery to Year 4 for a swimming payment of 12 this term to help support the
running costs of the pool. Without your support, this fantastic resource would not be available to so many of our
children.

WLDPS PTFA is on Facebook! Please come and like us at WLDPS PTFA community page. We will keep this page
