This Friday, we are inviting all children to wear their jeans and trainers for a donation of 50p or more, but should wear their usual white polo and jersey or cardigan. If you could help us support this worthy cause we would appreciate it. The children this week have had assemblies on caring for others with Mr Sherwin and his assembly on Tuesday centred on making the children aware of Jeans for Genes. This initiative helps children with genetic disorders from birth. By doing this, our children are learning of the difficulties that others are challenged with. SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS If you would like to talk to your children about possibly becoming a school councillor, elections will soon be held and interested children should prepare a short speech with good ideas as to how they would like to work as part of a team to improve the school further. Last years school council had terrific ideas which were all put in place such as the junior library, willow work, graffiti walls among many other initiatives. Class elections will have taken place by the 25 th
September, resulting in a first meeting on this date. I would like to announce School Councillors in a celebration assembly on the 26 th September. AXA INSURANCE We are having some volunteer helpers coming into school from the AXA Insurance Group this Friday to help the continuing improvements to our school. They will be helping with some painting around the outside of school and our flowerbeds in the playground. WE ARE NOW COLLECTING THE MORRISONS LETS GROW VOUCHERS Its that time of year again! We are collecting Lets Grow vouchers to help our school buy some new equipment. Dont forget to ask for your vouchers when you get your receipt at the till as they sometimes forget! We will have a collection box in the KS2 building for children to post them in, drop them into the office or in any of the secure grey boxes around school. TRAVELLING BOOK FAIR Next week the Travelling Book Fair will be visiting us in the Junior Hall. We will send out a slip with the times you are able to visit by the end of the week. DANCE EXPERIENCE NEEDED Miss Keelan is keen to enlist any parent help for dance across the world. Issue 2 17 th September 2014 Walton-le-Dale Wednesday Weekly Newsletter Through working together, the best is yet to come www.wldps.com HEADLICE We are being invaded by head lice and parents are understandably frustrated when their children collect and bring them home. I would be incredibly grateful if you would all be extremely vigilant and check your childs hair in an attempt to eradicate them from our school community. I have found Lyclear very effective but slightly more expensive. Hedrin continues to be a popular and successful treatment which can be obtained free of charge from any pharmacy using the minor ailments system. Usually, this involves one treatment, and then another a week later to ensure that all eggs are completely removed. I am afraid that there is no magic solution to this problem apart from regular checking and quick treatment when found. I have contacted the school nurse for further guidance for parents to help with this matter and it will be circulated to you as soon as possible. SICKNESS 48 HOURS We seem to be having a few cases of sickness/diarrhoea in the past week or two. To help prevent this from spreading may I please ask that you keep your child home from school for 48 hours from the last episode. CHOIR We are hoping to have our first rehearsal after school at 3.15pm on Friday, we have a number of children wanting to be a part of the choir but we are eager to look for children of all ages from the junior school. We have exciting opportunities ahead of us including Harvest, Christmas and a major fantastic experience at Blackburn Cathedral in the New Year! I would love the choir to go from strength to strength and would love children that enjoy singing and are committed to join this super club. If you need a letter to join please contact the school office. MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING/EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES 26 TH SEPTEMBER We would very much like to get involved with this event and invite all our school to take part. You can support us by making and baking. We would love it if you could make us a cake or biscuits or send something in that would go well with a cup of tea or coffee. Children are also preparing a little French conversation as they visit class by class. We would be grateful if they could bring a 1 to enjoy a drink/cake/biscuit.
