Week 1 Term 3 2015

To be the best we can be

P R I N C I PA L S P I E C E
( A . K . A . M Y S O A P B O X )
It is a beautiful winters day today and
the weather has welcomed us back to
school with clear skies...perfect weather
for cross country training. Yes its that
time again when we test our kids
stamina by competing in the either
much loved or much hated cross
country. My wife suggested a staff race...I suggested
something unprintable back! I am definitely not built to
run.
Speaking of running, Home & School are planning a fun
mud run. Whilst I think fun and run should not live in the
same sentence, many of you strangely seem to enjoy it.
Spread the word, tell your friends, as it should be a great
event.
On the subject of great events, many thanks to those
involved in the Wild West Cryptic dinner. If you missed
it, check out the photos on Facebook. Once again the
locals revealed in playing dress up and I hear rumours of
a medieval themed gig? Pillage and plunder anyone?
Its not just the Home & School coming up with great
events. The staff have a super (secret at the moment) idea
for a whole school experience at the end of the term. The
seniors in Mangawhero room have many exciting
learning opportunities this term, including: camp, a play
at Clarence Street Theatre, a trip to the Tauwhare
Sculpture Park, and next Friday we will be travelling to
Paeroa College to experience the Science Roadshow (trip
form coming home tomorrow). The other teachers are
also keen to plan some day trips/experiences, so watch
this space.
Hopefully we are providing such a positive and varied
range of learning experiences that our kids dont have the
same attitude towards school as my favourite cartoon
character Calvin does.
Have a great weekend.

Paeroa Lions Fireworks Display

On Saturday 31 October 2015 our club will be holding its
26th Annual Fireworks Display at Paeroa Domain with gates
opening at 6.00pm.For our 25th Annual Display in 2014 we
increased the scale of the fireworks display. We had so many
positive comments we have decided to maintain that standard
with our suppliers including some new displays as well. Our
aim is to provide a night of fun with a great display at an affordable cost so we have not included any increase in gate
charge which remains at $15 for a family ticket covering 2
adults and 2 children. We use the services of a longstanding
Auckland fireworks provider, and we also have food stalls, and
other entertainment on site. NO alcohol or personal fireworks
are allowed on the grounds and this assists us in making this a
very enjoyable night of family entertainment. This year our
Display falls the same night as Halloween and we will advise
further in due course as to what we will be doing to encourage
children to wear their Halloween outfits.

Purpose of meeting.
The Waikato Playcentre Association have advised their
willingness to gift back to the community the playcentre
building that sits on the Patetonga Domain.
Given that the building will then become community owned,
there will be the necessity to form a group/committee/Trust
to oversee the continued maintenance, upkeep and usage of
the facility.
Your attendance and input into the process would
appreciated.
