Crystallization

Objectives:

The purpose of this experiment is to (1) purify samples of organic compounds that are
solids at room temperature, (2) to dissociate the impure sample in the minimum amount
of an appropriate solvent.

Objectives:

The purpose of carrying this experiment is (1) to identify hydrocarbons and determine
their properties, (2) to know if there is a reaction occur between cyclohexane and with
the given solution.

Materials/ Chemicals being used:

10 test tubes
Test tube rack
100 ml beaker
Test tube holder (clamp)
Cyclohexane
Concentrated sulfuric acid solution, H2SO4
3ml (0.5 %) of potassium permanganate solution
3ml (10 %) of concentrated sulfuric acid
3ml (10 %) of dilute sodium hydroxide solution
Distilled water
