1-2. Remarks about the Living Allowance
(Page.3-9)
You are responsible to manage the Living Allowance and
pay all expenses including:
(a) Expenses incurred in Daily Living
(Rent, Utility charges, Meal, Cost of furniture, Communication fees,
National health insurance, Miscellaneous expenses)
(b) Cost of Books
(c) Expenses Incurred for Domestic and Overseas
(Research trips and registration fees for academic meetings)
(d) Transportation Expenses (to university/ JICA Center etc.)

The payment of living allowance is suspended for the


whole period of your overseas temporary leave.

Accommodation during your stay in Japan
(1) JICA Center
A room at a JICA center / hotel will be initially arranged for
you to stay at the time of your arrival

(2) Types of Accommodation


1) JICA Center
2) University dormitory
3) Students hall
4) Urban renaissance agencys apartment
5) Private apartment

Your accommodation will be arranged based on the


situation and availability at the university.

4-1. Temporary Leave to Travel Home
Country and/or to a Third Country
(Page.43-44)

You need to submit the application form and complete the


official procedure of JICA.
You are responsible for all expenses from departure to re-
entry into Japan.
Overseas travel accident insurance provided by JICA
covers only 90 days.
The payment of living allowance is suspended for the
whole period of your temporary leave.

4-2. Overseas Research (Page.39-42)

You need to submit the application form and complete the


official procedure of JICA.
Living allowance will be continuously provided if The
overseas research period is 30 days or less. Living
allowance will be suspended from the 31st day.
The all travel expenses have to be covered by you.
Overseas travel accident insurance provided by JICA
covers only 90 days.
Note: Number of days for The overseas research is counted from
the next day of your entry to the destination country to the day
before your departure from the destination country

ABE participants are not allowed to:

Work (Your VISA status is STUDENT)


Drive vehicles (cars, motorcycles, etc)
Change accommodation without informing JICA
Be absent from your accommodation for a while without
informing JICA
Leave Japan without informing JICA
Extend the period of Masters course
Violation of the Japanese law and Regulations
(Ex: Sexual Harassment)

6. Inviting Your Family to Japan
(Page. 31-34)
You should be responsible for all expenses, and should
take all necessary procedures and responsibilities
regarding inviting your family to Japan.
JICA does not provide any support or additional financial
assistance except issuing certain documents needed for
the invitation procedure.
If you invite your family, JICA strongly recommend you to
do so at least after 6 months of your stay in Japan. (Also
research students should not invite their family until they
become master students)
