Classroom Floor Plan

Floor Plan Narrative

Given the opportunity to create the perfect classroom, this is how I would like my

classroom to look. I started with putting the teacher area in front of the door, so I can

see who is at the door. The whiteboard and smartboard should be in the center of the

room to allow the students to see the boards from anywhere in the room. The rug in

front of the boards is essential for whole class work and comfortable read alouds.

Putting the writing center/teacher table in the front corner of the room gives the students

an opportunity to work with the teacher individually or in small groups to work on writing,

sight words, reading, etc. Also, by placing the C shaped table in the front corner of the

room allows the teacher to still be able to see and keep an eye on the rest of the class.

By placing the student desks in groups of five, gives opportunity for independent work

but also groups can work together when given permission. Technology is taking over,

so it is important to at least have a few computers in the classroom if given the option.

Finally, there is a classroom library with a reading rug for the students to sit and read

independently with a variety of books and genres. Anchor charts, a word wall and

bulletin boards will be hung up on the walls for students to use as strategies and tools to

use throughout the year,
