One of the best experiences in studying Arturo Luz is recognizing and grasping his

struggles in life and how you can exercise it as an inspiration to do better in life. Studying about

the painter does not just focus on research and inquiries, but rather, learning more about the history

and the contributions he has given to the Philippine Art. Arturo Luzs Paintings are mostly based

on his travels around the world. One major example is the Bagong Taon, which was inspired by

his travels in the archipelago of the Philippines. One may not grasp the accurate implication in

arrears of his work but when you read the explanation behind it, you will be able to learn more

about history. In this painting, he was able to visit different rural, urban and tribal communities.

He witnessed and experienced their diverse traditions especially the sensible connection of these

cultures. Through this painting, I was able to conjoin structures, shades, and combinations and

turn them into emotions. I was able to recognize the reality and the lessons that were implicated

by the artist. In my personal outlook, the foremost achievement that I was able to grasp is that I

was able to broaden my thinking or as the most straightforward, I was able to switch up manners

of supposing on certain themes, issues, and meanings. Then the alteration commences transpiring,

the variation in reflection, ethics hierarchy, and discernment.

Consequently, doing research about Arturo Luz helped me appreciate more of the abstract

sculptures. Arturo Luz is one of the major propagators of abstract sculptures in the Philippines. On

a more contemporary echelon, carving is used for education. Sculptures regularly deliver basic

reference for artists, learners or normal individuals aiming to study the social figure. The sculpture

portrays a closer degree to a figure which will give a diverse but closer perspective towards the
subject. Seeing the figure in sculpture form aids the spectator to acquire an improved sense of all

the contours and how they transpire from diverse angles, as opposed to the one perspective more

than a motionless painting can impart.

The first time I saw the painting of Arturo Luz in the National Museum, I was dissatisfied.

There were only two paintings fastened on the wall namely, Departure and Arrival. The painting

was a plain stretch of brown fibers that one cannot see any artistic practice behind the piece of art.

The two paintings were emphasized in the third floor of the museum donated by the Manila

International Airport Authority (MIAA) Collection. Nevertheless, what intrigued me most about

those paintings was that they were not dyed for reality nor about actuality. Paintings let you think

in an imaginative way forcing you to perceive the universe in a more superficial way. Through
these ideologies, I was able to cling to the idea as to why the painting Departure was dyed black.

The color black denotes mystery and vagueness. Departure may be defined as an enigmatic

journey, one cannot forecast the future nor predict the outcome of an expedition. In this artwork,

one can attest that Arturo Luz is purely a genius when it comes to deeper sensitivities.

Succeeding is his painting designated as Arrival. The artwork Arrival was dyed in a

white acrylic of burlap which was tossed to achieve the skin of abstract paintings. White portrays

the notion of safety or solely protection, synonymously saying that when you have already arrived

at your destination, at any point of your life, would humbly implicate that security is at hand.

It is significant for the students of the Philippines to be knowledgeable about our National

Artist because it is one of the preeminent ways to appreciate their masterpieces. Paintings make
individual comprehend the world in an exceptional and reflective way. One can never truly

appreciate an artwork by not profoundly knowing the artist behind that masterwork. Painters shade

canvases that convey ideas about traditions, wars and conflicts and a lot more in an inscrutable

manner. Subsequently, learners will be able to fathom more of the artists works and will give

more attention to the current problems that the society is currently facing. Through this

proliferation of attention, the individuals will find ways to address this problem which will lead to

a more progressive country.

Following, by being acquainted more with the National Artists, the students will be

motivated, not just in painting or art, but also in life. The superlative entity a person can ever

contribute to his fellow human being is by inspiring them to do better. Another thing about artists,

they are able to define a definite philosophy in the similar fragment of the world, therefore they

are able to present us artifacts which were left for us to study, enabling us to understand and mug

up about historical happenings. Responding inquiries like why or when did a definite event

materialize. If they are examined, they can aid as an affiliation to the past.
