- Interactive Read Aloud: Hello Everyone!
This last week was a busy one! In writing the students have been

working hard on their informative research projects. Last week the students
checked out non-fiction books from the school library to use as a resource
for their research. This week each student will finish their notetaking and will
Writing begin to create a storyboard to map out their plan for their report and to
- Informative writing show which nonfiction text features they will use to visually display their
information. Many students are choosing to include photographs and
o Online captions, diagrams and labels, maps, graphs, and timelines to their
encyclopedia reports. Additionally, childs report will include a table of contents,
research and book glossary, and an index.
Last week we finished reading My Life in Dog Years. On Monday
research we will start a novel titled Morning Girl. The story is set in 1492, and is about
o Storyboards a young Taino brother and sister who live on Bahamian island before the
arrival of Christopher Columbus. The story is rich with figurative language
and beautiful imagery. While reading this story we will discuss the
Math differences and similarities between the Taino culture and our own reflect
- Multi-digit multiplication on the changes and growth we see in the characters throughout the
book. The students will keep track of their own text/text, text/self, and
and division text/world connections in their interactive reading journal and will use this
strategy when reading their own independent books as well.
Our salmon eggs are beginning to hatch! This week we will begin
Science our multi-week salmon unit. Throughout this unit we will discuss the lifecycle
of a salmon, a salmons anatomy, a salmons habitat/ecosystem,
- Engineering and design predators and prey, and environmental factors that impact a salmons
o Catapult lab ability to survive. We will raise our salmon until they are in the fry stage
- Salmon lifecycle and then we will release them into a river.
Last week we had our first class Super Scientist presentation!
Each week the students will take turns performing a simple science
Social Studies experiment in front of the class while the class completes a lab report. The
Super Scientists lab report will go into our Super Scientist Journal along
- Why We Move: United with a picture, so we can look back on the experiments we have done
States - Pre-colonization throughout the year.
