Lesson Duration: (period 5) 11:08-11:48 & (period 6) 11:51-12:30

General Learning Outcome 2:


Comprehend and respond personally, critically and creatively to oral, print and other media texts.

Specific Learning Outcomes:


2.1 Use strategies and cues (2.1.1/2.1.2/2.1.3)
2.2. Respond to Texts (2.2.1/2.2.3)
2.3 Understand forms, elements, and techniques (2.3.1)
2.4 Create original texts (2.4.1/2.4.2/2.4.3)

Students will:
-follow along as the teacher read aloud
-ask questions and share their ideas or thoughts
-develop both critical and creative thinking skills
-practice forming 5 proper sentences (intro/characters/setting/plot/conclusion)
-read, write, and follow prompting questions

Written/Performance Assessment:
-Book Cover Writing Assignment [Summative: 15 points]

Learning Activity #1: [Period 5]


-Students have 40 minutes to read their personal novels
-Period 6 students can take their Renaissance Test if they have completed their novel

Learning Activity #2: [Period 6]


-Teacher will read aloud the short story The Boy & the Eagle

Learning Activity #3:


-Students will begin the Book Cover assignment

Assessment/Differentiation:
-Student Comprehension
-Students ability to work independently or with assistance
-Students ability to follow along when being read to
-Students discuss the novel; characters, plot, conflict, etc.
-Students ask questions or share their thoughts or ideas.

Notes:
Introduction explain what the book is about; e.g. This book is about a First Nations boy
Characters who are all the characters?
Setting where does the event take place?
Plot what is the main event?
Conclusion encourage readers to read your book
