Q1.Difference between test cross and back cross.

ANS. Test Cross:

a cross between an individual of unknown genotype with one individual that is

homozygous recessive.

Tt x tt

Back Cross

In backcross, F1 hybrid is crossed back with any of the parent, either dominant or recessive.
Back crosses are used to increase useful traits in a population.

Tt x TT/tt

Q2 Explain monohybrid, dihybrid cross, co dominance, polygenic inheritance.

ANS: MONOHYBRID CROSS: It is a cross between two pure organisms in order

to study the inheritance of a single pair of alleles. In it only one character is
taken.
TT x tt only height character taken
It produces a phenotypic monohybrid ratio of 3: 1 in F2 generation. It produces
genotypic ratio of 1: 2: 1 in F2.

DIHYBRID CROSS:
Dihybrid cross is a cross between two pure lines that differ in two observed traits.

Two characters are taken one for color yellow and green

Second for shape: wrinkled and constricted

It produces a phenotypic monohybrid ratio of 9:3:3: 1 in F2 generation.
It produces genotypic ratio of 1: 2: 1:2:4:2:1:2:1 in F2.
CO- Dominance: When an organism has two different alleles for a
gene that does not follow the dominant/recessive pattern
The organism shows a trait that is a blend of the traits represented by
the two alleles
Also called INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE.

POLYGENIC INHERITANCE:
A trait that is controlled by more than two alleles is said to be controlled
by multiple alleles
Traits controlled by multiple alleles produce more than three phenotypes
of that trait.
