Journal Entry #3, Week 3

September 11th

Its the third week at my internship and things are starting to progress. I attend my first
intern/ supervision meeting. During the meeting, we go over the different task each of the interns
will complete and goals for the meetings that we will have every Monday at 2pm to discuss our
progress on those tasks. One of my task was to become more familiar with Wrap and the Wrap
process. To complete this task, I was assigned to go on a discharge and new referral visit with
our Program Coordinator, Alison. It was at the clients home and we were discharging one child
from the program and enrolling one of the siblings. Doing an at home visit was very different
than the previous transition meeting because we werent in a controlled environment. It was a
challenge to stay on topic during the visit with the clients and their parent because there were
three other children in the household. They were running around and being very distracting but
we completed the visit successfully. I realize the difficulties in doing a visit at home verses doing
one in a controlled environment and I recognize the importance of being safe during such visits
because you cant be sure what will be happening in a clients household.

The last day of my third week, and I come into the office and begin another task that was
assigned to me on Monday. Another intern, Jen and myself were tasked with creating a list of
potential donor sites to contribute to our holiday give away for the clients. My site supervisor
invites me to sit in on a teleconference on the contract of the new location in Talbot County, MD.
I agreed and she briefs me on the status of the contract and lets me read over the agreements,
MOU and contract formalities. We complete the teleconference and have laid out a time to
complete the paperwork and send in the necessary documents to complete the contract. My site
supervisor then asks me to contact a clients parent regarding a resource assistance form and
complete my first note in Shared Village, our electronic health record. Unfortunately, I could not
help the parent because she did not have the necessary documentation yet and Chalarra, my site
supervisor nor myself would be available to help her the next day. I realize that in some cases
you cannot provided the help that is sought out and that can be difficult to relay to a client, but it
is necessary.
