In 2012 the ASME Committee issued a code case: Code Case 2695. This code case gives the
user of the 2012 (and later) version of PV Elite the opportunity of using the technology of
ASME Section VIII, Division 2 to analyze a vessel that is designed to ASME Section VIII,
Division 1.
This can give an advantage to the Division 1 designer, because he may be able to reduce the
thickness of some of the vessel components, affording a saving in metal and welding. This can
give the fabricator an edge in being able to work up a cheaper bid on a particular vessel
The advantage of using Code Case 2695 has been defined above. The detailed requirements for
the extra quality requirements (radiography, documentation etc.), are not imposed for a Division
1 vessel. However, the higher stress value afforded by Division 2 cannot be used when
employing Code Case 2695.
PV Elite allows the design to use Code Case 2695 or not, and he/she can compare the results of
the final design and make an informed choice. To use Code Case 2695 is only a click of the
mouse button away.
Open PV Elite, and build your vessel as an ASME Division 1 vessel in the normal way. Include
all the components in the usual way. You can run the calculations in the usual way to get the
report in Division 1 format. This is how you change PV Elite to carry out the analysis it is so
simple:
