Prime Minister said, the Centre will consult the states on bringing petroleum products under the ambit of the
Goods and Services Tax (GST).

PM said this while reacting to suggestions of participants during the interaction with CEOs and experts of
oil and gas from across the world in New Delhi.
NITI Aayog CEO quoted the Prime Minister as saying that there is a need to talk to the states over the
issue.
Currently, petroleum products face high Central and State levies and Petroleum Minister repeatedly talked
about bring petrol and diesel under the GST framework.
The Prime Minister brainstormed on ways to raise domestic oil and gas production and asserted that his
government is committed to doing more for the energy sector with a focus on expanding infrastructure
and access to it in eastern India.

Finance Minister said despite attempts to derail the recently introduced Goods and Services Tax (GST), the
states are adopting the new regime at a fast pace.

At the event jointly organised by CII and US India Business Council (USIBC) in New York, FM said global
integration of Indian economy is happening at a time when other economies are becoming more
protectionist.
He said India is now a better place to do business because of the series of steps taken by the government
in the last three years.
Finance minister said India is now capable of taking big decisions and implementing them at a large-
scale.

3. Centre has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of certain steel wire rods from China

The Centre has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of certain steel wire rods from China for five years, with a
view to guard the interest of domestic players from cheap in-bound shipments.

In a notification, the Department of Revenue said that the anti-dumping duty imposed shall be effective for a
period of five years from the date of its imposition and shall be payable in Indian currency .

The duty was imposed after the Commerce Ministrys Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied
Duties (DGAD) recommended duty on such imports.
In its findings, the DGAD had concluded that wire rod of alloy or non-alloy steel has been exported to

 India at below the normal value due to which the domestic industry has suffered material injury.
India has already slapped anti-dumping duty on certain cold-rolled flat steel products from four nations,
including China and South Korea.
The Anti-dumping measures are taken to ensure fair trade and provide a level-playing field to the
domestic industry.

4. Vice President will inaugurate the third International Conference on Yoga

Vice President will inaugurate the third International Conference on Yoga in New Delhi. The theme for this years
conference will be Yoga for Wellness. The two-day conference has six technical sessions and experts will
deliberate on the scope of Yoga in integrated medicine, control of cancer, depression, gynecological disorders
and pain management.

Around 500 delegates, including those from 44 countries, will attend the conference which will provide a
common platform to AYUSH and allopathic practitioners, researchers, academicians, policy makers and
students.

5. NHRC issued notices to Centre and Maharashtra government over reported deaths of farmers

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Centre and Maharashtra government over
reported deaths of farmers due to infection caused by spraying of a pesticide on cotton crops.

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the Commission sought detailed reports from state
Chief Secretary and Union Agriculture Secretary within four weeks.
The reports say that in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra several farmers had to be hospitalized, during the
last three months, due to an infection, caused by spraying of a pesticide on the cotton crops.
NHRC said, the state government is reported to have announced an inquiry into the deaths of 18 farmers
and farm labourers.
The NHRC also directed the state Chief Secretary to inform about the steps taken to stop recurrence of
such incidents and ensure that the best treatment is provided free of cost to the farmers.

6. Facebook comes to minor girls rescue

Facebook comes to minor girls rescue. A family court in Jodhpur annulled child marriage of a girl who was only
12 when her wedding was solemnised 7 years ago.

The boys Facebook account provided evidence that helped in proving that the marriage took place 2010, when
both the boy and the girl were minors.

7. Indian Peace Keepers repulsed an attack by a group of around 30 militia on Friday on its Lubero post in
the troubled province of North Kivu in Congo.

about indigenisation under Make-in-India programme.

communication, logistics and cyber among others to prepare for any future conflict.

Addressing the Army Commanders Conference in New Delhi today, she said, the government is also
focussing on capacity building and capability development of the force.
She promised close monitoring of improvement in strategic infrastructure , long pending force modification
requests, welfare of serving, retired and their families.

Inaugurating India Water Week in New Delhi, he said

The issue of water is becoming more critical in view of climate change and related environmental
concerns.
There is a need to set new benchmarks in villages and in cities being built.
The President said, currently, 80 per cent of water in the country is used by agriculture and only 15 per
cent by the industry. In coming years, this ratio will change.
The total demand for water will also rise. Efficiency of water use and reuse therefore has to be built in to
the blueprint of Industrial projects.
The President said, in urban areas, 40 billion litres of waste water is produced every day and it is vital to
adopt technology to reduce the toxic content of this water and to deploy it for irrigation and other
purposes.
The President also urged for a localised water management approach which should empower village and
neighbourhood communities and build their capacity to manage, allocate and value their water resources.

10. BIMSTECs first Disaster Management Exercise

Home Minister stressed on the need for regional cooperation to deal with natural disasters.
Addressing BIMSTEC 1st Disaster Management Exercise in New Delhi, he said, advanced and improved
disaster preparedness must be there to avoid a large number of losses due to natural calamities.

The Home Minister said, reducing loss of lives should be on the main agenda during any kind of natural
disaster.
He said India is making improvement in its natural disaster warning systems.

CM said government wants to have talks under one umbrella as 30 different armed groups are operating
in the state. He said his party is willing to give up power if a long-lasting solution could be found to the
insurgency.
The Centre had signed a Framework Agreement with NSCN(IM) in August 2015 to find a solution to
the insurgency, although it is yet to yield a final outcome .
Manipur has a long history of insurgency with banned outfits , including Peoples Liberation Army , Peoples
Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, United National Liberation Front and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup active
in the valley.

Almost 2.2 million people are registered to vote in the election.

nation still recovering from a 14-year civil war.

with more than 50 percent of people living in poverty.

He said, the agency has proved its credibility in the last eight-and-a-half years by conducting fair, credible
and professional investigations.
He said, the NIA investigations have resulted in 95 per cent conviction rate.
The Home Minister said, terrorism is a road block for development and it is a curse for civilized society.

14. The birth centenary celebration of Nanaji Deshmukh

Prime Minister will address a function to mark the birth centenary celebration of Nanaji Deshmukh in New Delhi.
He will release a commemorative postage stamp on Nanaji Deshmukh . He will launch a portal for coordination
and monitoring of development works at the district level.

He will also launch the Gram Samvad App which will carry information on the progress of rural
development works at the Gram Panchayat level.

Chandikadas Amritrao Deshmukh also known as Nanaji Deshmukh was a social activist from India. He
worked in the fields of education, health, and rural self-reliance, and has been honoured with the Padma
Vibhushan by the Government of India. He was a leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sanghand also a member of

In Uttar Pradesh, the State Government has ordered inquiry into the case of Chemical gas leakage from a sugar
mill in Shamli district due to which many children fell unconscious and were hospitalized in various hospitals.

The chemical gas, leaked from bio waste of a nearby sugar mill on Budhana Road.
District Magistrate of Shamli has ordered the pollution control board to file a report about the gas leakage .

16. NGT has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to stop indiscriminate dumping of municipal solid
waste and debris

The National Green Tribunal, NGT has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to stop indiscriminate dumping of
municipal solid waste and debris on the Hindon floodplains.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar asked the state government to
immediately remove the garbage lying on the riverbed and restore the area to its original form and status.
The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by a local resident against reckless dumping of municipal solid
waste near Hindon River in Ghaziabad.

Hindon River, a tributary of Yamuna river, is a river in India that originates in the Saharanpur District, from
Upper Shivalik in Lower Himalayan Range. The river is entirely rainfed.

17. International Monetary Fund revised its global growth forecasts

The International Monetary Fund revised its global growth forecasts, saying an upswing in the world economy
would likely gather pace into next year.

But the global crisis lender called on governments to strike while the iron is hot, saying dangers for the current
recovery lurked on the horizon and ambitious reforms are necessary for continued poverty reduction.
