SurvivalCraft is a block terrain game where you are marooned on a deserted island

and must survive on your own. Every minute is a life or death challenge. The terrain is
infinite, so there is no escape. You must learn to survive for as long as you can. You'll
have to find food, make your own clothing and build a safe shelter; all while avoiding
being eaten by lions, tigers or bears, and so much more!

Survival Craft has 5 main play modes:

Harmless - You don't have to eat or sleep, fall damage is reduced and the
animals won't attack unless you hit them first. Otherwise, it is essentially the
same as Challenging Mode:
Challenging - You can die (easily) but can respawn (without your clothing or
anything you were carrying).
Cruel - You only get one chance to stay alive. Once you die, the world is lost.
Adventure - This is a world created by someone else and will usually have
quests or missions. You can die and respawn or restart the world from the
beginning, if it's allowed.
Creative - You can fly, you don't have to dress, eat or sleep and you cannot be
killed. Almost all blocks are freely available and easily broken.
The rules of nature reign supreme in this game. Eat and avoid being eaten. If
the wild animals don't get you, the freezing cold will. If the cold doesn't,
starvation could. You still have to sleep too, or you just might pass out while
running away from an angry rhino. If you're clever enough to make it through
the first day, you still need a safe shelter for the dangerous night! All the meat
eaters in your area can smell you when they hunt at night. If you have a good
shelter, you just might be able to make it through the night but then you may
have to fight your way back out in the morning! All those hungry beasts could
be waiting just outside your door. They like the new smell - YOU!

If you do manage to make a safe and secure shelter you can scout and mine for
materials to craft weapons, tools and armor. Build a stronger shelter from stone
blocks. Set simple or complex traps for the beasts. Grow your own crops.
Domesticate horses, zebras or ostriches. Build a farm or a ranch and expand
your territory.
Just remember, one mistake and the tigers and wolves could ruin everything.
It's not an easy life in SurvivalCraft - it's SURVIVAL!
Building a House

Dear, Yolo if you want the house to be strong you should dig deep underground and find rock or other
hard substances that there are a lot of. Make sure you are able to get back above ground. Once you
have enough go back up and start building. The best size is probably a 10 by 10 or bigger if you want.
If you want to be really fancy you can also slap some wooden flooring to the house. Do Not Be Afraid
To Double Up Doors Or Walls For Extra Protection Against the Things That Can Hurt You. I hope that
my knowledge of Survivalcraft could help

Animals and Pressure Plates

Animals CAN step on pressure plates and trigger them. I don't know the specifics, but I figured this
out because an angry bull followed me and triggered the pressure plate opening my door. Another
thing too: Almost all animals are not capable of going through a 1x2 door.

it to survival (any mode) then there you go you have a mansion!
Electric repeater
If you want an electric source to repeat itself over and over, here's how to do it. Remember to keep
the building materials in a really dark room. 1. Place the electric part with the X on it on a wall (in a
dark room). On one side of it, put a photodiode ( solar panel). On the other side, put the triangular
electric part with the N on it and turn it so it connects into the X part. Above the N part, put a light
bulb. Lastly put several wires upward from the top of the X part. The wires are supposed to connect
to the light bulb so don't worry. Take that wire and connect it to whatever you want. Hope this
helped.

How to Plant Trees That Actually Grow

So, to make a tree seedling, take leaf blocks off of a tree and put them into your crafting section.
There should then be little mini trees in the "little outcome craft box", as I like to call it. You take
those and that is how you make the seedling. Now, to plant the trees!! There are two ways to plant
the tree. (that I know of, or so far. You never know, it could update that!!) You have to put it in the
right biome, of course. But there has to be water around it. Or else it will welt. OR, you could wait
until it rains, then plant it. This is really useful if you need wood, but is running out of trees!!! Hope I
helped!!

Wild tamed horse!

First spawn a horse and tame it.mount the horse Then face your head so you can see the horses

How to hunt bulls, boars and bears

Dig a hole 2 deep by 4 wide by 6 long. Dig a hole inside that hole 2 deep by 1 wide by 1 long. Go tick
off a bull or boar and go hide in the inner hole. Wait for the animal to chase you into the hole and get
trapped in the outer hole. Whack it until it dies. It can't touch you inside the inner hole.

Easy house for beginners

Make a 5x5 block square. Dig out one block on one side. Put a block on top of the square and attatch
another one pointimg inside the square. Delete the one directly on top of the bottom square. Make a
smaller square on top of the bottom one using the floating block as a start. Do the same thing with
the smaller square as the bottom. Only this time you only need one block. Go back to the bottom
where you dug out the hole. Dig down and dig out the inside of the house. There you have a simple
pyramid house.

PS if you want a more decorative doorway plant some ivy above the opening. In 2-4 days it should
be down to the ground. :-)

How to make a big cave

When you see a mountain, go to middle of the mountain and place big gunpowder barrels and blast
it. After blasting there will be a huge cave..

Catch animals easily

Dig a hole 2 blocks deep and 2 blocks wide and 2 blocks long.[should end up with something like
this and 2 deep]. Then if you want to catch a horse, cow, wild boar, camel, donkey, or any other
herbavore, throw a piece of grass or a flower in the hole. [don't place it] If you want to catch a lion,
tiger, bear, wolve, or any other carnivore, throw meat in there. *if you want a werewolf trap, put
spike planks at the bottom and make the trap 4 blocks deep.* on the side of werewolf trap, put 4
blocks of dirt stacked, and put glass connected to the dirt over the werewolf trap. [put a ladder on
the dirt]. Climb uo onto the glass, and the werewolf should fall in if chasing you. Easy way to make
diamonds.

First Game
When the game first starts up you will be in the Main Screen. Here you can browse
through the Help Topics when you click the HELP button or start a new game with
the SINGLE PLAYER button. You should be ok with the settings that it starts with.

Starting Your First Game

If you haven't played SurvivalCraft before, you will have to start a new world. Your
first one should be in Harmless Mode so you can learn the controls.

From the Main screen, tap the SINGLE PLAYER button to get to the Existing
Worlds screen. This lists the worlds you already have. For your first time, it will be
empty.

Tap the NEW WORLD button to get to the Start A New World screen. This gives
you a random world.
Look over this screen and find the GAME MODE button. It will
say CHALLENGING. Tap it until it says HARMLESS. This game mode lets you
play without getting hunted by the animals so you can learn how to play easier.

Leave the rest alone and tap PLAY!

Start Playing the Game

The game will create a new world and it might take a minute to start it up. Then the
opening video will play and you will be left standing there, watching the ship sail
away from you over the Great Eastern Ocean. The sun is rising in front of you so you
are facing the east.
Look over your screen and you will see the Onscreen Buttons. You can learn more
about them HERE.

Tap the < button to pause the game. You will see the Game Paused screen. There are
five buttons. The HELP button takes you to the Help Topics screen, again. QUIT will
save and leave the world you're in and take you back to the Main Screen. You don't
have to worry about saving the game. It saves automatically.

Now, tap the < button to return to the game. Only the < button will pause the game.
When you press any other button, the game will NOT be paused.

There are three sets of buttons/pads on the Play screen. They are covered in
detail HERE. Tap the (...) button in the corner, to close the button bar across the top.
You can open or close this anytime. Themotion controls are at the bottom. You should
have a MOVE touchpad and a LOOK touchpad.

Place your right thumb in the LOOK pad and move it around to see how it works.
Make sure you are not facing straight out to sea and use your left thumb to move the
character. Do it the same way by placing it in the MOVE pad and slide it one way or
another. The farther you slide your thumb, the faster the character will move.

When you are comfortable moving and looking around, you can start exploring the
world. You should also learn all about the Onscreen Controls before trying to do
more.

Getting Around at First

Check out the lay of the land. Note the various animals and plants that surround you.
It will be different for every new game. Do not hit the animals or they might bite you
back. See if you have mountains, hills or flatland around you. Deserts, forests,
grasslands or tundra are some of the Biomes you will find. Each biome usually isn't
very big in SurvivalCraft worlds so you can pick the ones you like pretty easily.

You usually start on a beach and there's some grass close by. You can walk around,
and even climb some hills or whatever is around you. It's best to stay out of the water
but if you're in Harmless mode, it won't hurt the character.

The game should be on auto-jump so you won't have to tap to jump at every little
block. By tapping in the LOOK pad, you can make the character jump when you
want.

Breaking Blocks

You can poke your screen with your finger tip and your character will hit some things
with whatever tool is in your hand. If you move close to an animal and tap at it, you
character will punch the animal. Be careful, the animal might try to bite you back. If
you are in Harmless mode, they may attack you but it won't actually hurt you. They
will give up after awhile.

Move yourself so you are close to some sand or grass and look at it. Now touch and
hold your finger on the sand or grass. You will see it outline and an action circle will
show up. When the circle finishes, the block that you were touching will be 'broken'
and a small 'dropped item' will appear. If you are close enough, this item will get
sucked up into your inventory slots. You can keep holding your finger down and the
character will keep trying to break blocks wherever you are touching. This is how you
gather ingredients for crafting.

Lift your finger up to stop breaking blocks. You will probably now be holding the
block you just broke. Now turn and look at an open space. Tap that space and the
block you were holding should be placed where you tapped. It has to have enough
room to go there so, if it didn't work the first time try to tap on another space a little
farther away. This is how you build things. (This is NOT crafting.)

Collecting and Crafting

The first thing you usually want to start collecting is some wood. To make
any tools or weapons, you have to use a crafting table. To make a crafting table, you
need some wood. Go up to a tree and start 'punching' it. It will take a lot longer to
break the tree than it did the sand. This is because things that are harder need harder
tools to break them easier. An axe is best for wood but you can use your hand to
collect enough wood to make a crafting table and a wooden axe. While you collect the
wood, break and gather a lot of leaf blocks, too.

Once you have collected 3 wood blocks, you can make a crafting table and your first
tools.

Open the personal crafting space and find the wood in your inventory. Touch and drag
it to any crafting slot. See the crafting page to learn more about crafting. Planks will
show up in the output box. Drag them into your inventory.

Now touch and hold the planks until the box gets hilighted. Now release your finger
and tap on each of the crafting slots to put one plank in each. This will make your first
crafting table. That's how you split stacks.

Make sure that the table is in your hotbar. Close the crafting space and select the table
in the hotbar. Now place it on the ground like placing any other block.

Now tap on the table to get the full crafting area. You are ready to use
the recipaedia to learn the recipes to make things. See the page on CRAFTING to
learn more.

Once you can craft things, you should make a wooden pickaxe and collect
some cobblestone. Use this to make stronger tools. Stone is much better than wood for
tools and weapons.
Once you are gathering cobble, get some more so you can make a furnace. A furnace
will let you smelt ores into ingredients to use in crafting better things.

Getting Hungry and Tired

In Harmless mode, you get hungry but it takes awhile, then it only hurts you a little bit
and you regenerate pretty fast. You can go a long time before eating but you do need
to eat regularly in the harder modes. Open the Body/Food screen and see your
character. When you have food, you can drag it from your inventory, onto the body
picture to eat it.

You will eventually need to eat but you can survive quite a long time before having to
eat. One easy way to get food is simply to stand around and watch for birds to
drop eggs. You can pick them up and eat them raw. This won't be enough food to
survive in the harder modes but will be good enough for now.

If you wander around you might find pumpkins. You can break them and eat them
too. Some other animals may come after the pumpkins if you don't pick them up right
away.

While you are wandering, you might hear animals fighting. Their attacks sound like
slapping noises and you might hear them complain, as well. Look around and try to
find the fight. If it isn't too far away, you should go and watch them. One animal will
probably be a meat animal and the other a carnivour. If the meat animal is killed, you
can run over and pick up the meat that it drops. The carnivour will not attack you in
Harmless mode and you get some easy, free meat to eat.

Once you can make weapons, you can use a machete to kill some animals for food.
A stone machete is much better than a wood one. Not all animals will drop food,
however. Some will drop other useful items. Wild boar will come after pumpkins if
you drop them and the boar are good food. Use your matchete to kill the boar when
they come to get the pumpkins.

You should remember that sometimes even the mildest animal will turn and attack
you back. Learn how to defend yourself and still get the food you need to survive.

You will also get tired and may even pass out, but the beasts won't hurt you while you
sleep. You can get cold and freeze to death if you're in a cold biome, especially if
you're wet. So stay where you won't get cold, for now. You can just wait and let the
character pass out from sleep, as long as you're not in the middle of a fight or in water,
etc. You really don't need to build a temporary shelter in Harmless mode. You can
wait until you are ready to build a better one.

Sleeping Better

Once you can gather and mine for resources then smelt and craft them into tools,
weapons, and other items you can make a shelter better than a hole in the ground.

There are many ways to make shelters but if you want to sleep in them, they need a
soft enough spot to sleep on. Any leaf block or wood or even sand or grass will be soft
enough to sleep on and you just need one.

The shelter has to be secure as well. It needs to be sealed up from invading animals,
even in Harmless mode. But it's easy to make walls from leaves or planks if you're
near a forest. Or you can make them from sand if you're near a desert. A temporary
roof can be made from leaves. You can seal a doorway up with sand or leaves, and
simply break it open once you have slept.

To go to sleep, stand on the soft block and open the Body/Food screen. Tap
the Zzz button to sleep. If something is wrong, you will be told.

You can build a more permanent shelter or improve your first one, with some more
time and effort. You'll probably want a door and maybe some windows. Use the
recipaedia in the help screen to see how to craft a door. Use
the furnace to smelt some sand into glass. There are several pages on this wiki about
building good houses.

Getting Dressed

You have to learn to stay warm in colder biomes, now. If you get cold, you can freeze
to death in the harder modes. In Harmless mode, your vision will still freeze over and
you won't be able to see and your movement will become very slow but you will not
take any damage. Stay in a warmer biome to avoid getting cold. To survive in the
cold, you will need to make CLOTHING.
To make clothes, you need to grow cotton or get leather and fur from the animals that
drop them. You can even change the color of your clothes with dyes/paints.

You can protect yourself from the beasts that attack by making some armor. It uses a
lot of resources but can keep you alive longer.

Ready To Go!

Once you know how to do all these things, you are ready to try Challenging mode!
You have to be able to get ahead quickly and try not to die. But the whole world is out
to get you. That's why it's such a CHALLENGE!

Beginning the Game

As you start your gameplay, collect everything you can. Do you see
any cotton, pumpkins, or eggs? If so, gather them - quickly. They will offer a source
of clothing (for later) and food that will be vital.

Finding a place to reside can be challenging. You need to stay in a desert for the time
being so you don't freeze to death. Just make sure you are near a forest so gathering
wood isn't too risky. You don't want to get lost or attacked by an animal.

You will need to start to gather wood to make planks for a small
shelter. Leaves or dirt will also suffice. This will keep you safe from predators for
your first few nights while you gather supplies to make a better shelter later. Make
a door for your small shelter if you wish. You will need to make a crafting
table immediately. This way you can make some wooden tools and weapons to get
you started. They aren't very strong, but they will make everything easier until you get
better supplies throughout the next few days. Having a simple wooden machete can be
the difference between life and death in challenging mode. Start to make chests to
store your items as well.

Sleep at sundown. This way, if you die, you won't lose your temporary shelter and
items.

During the next few days, start to gather cobblestone. It is mined from granite which
can be found nearly everywhere. Just make sure not to stray too far. If need be, you
can make way-point markers from leaves or dirt so you can easily find your way
home. (See tips page.)
Be sure you continue to gather food whenever you come across it! This applies for
the rest of your journey.

Once you have enough cobblestone saved, you can start working on your new home.

Your New Home

For your larger home, find the flattest spot you can to lay your foundation. Just place
the cobblestone you gathered on the grass in a rectangular (or whatever shape you
desire) shape the size you want your home to be. This will give you an idea of how
many cobblestone blocks you still need to gather. (Make stone tools as you gather
cobblestone.)

As you start to build your house higher and higher, make sure to leave room for
windows. You can use leaves for a makeshift window until you have
a furnace and glass. This will allow for you to have a placeholder for your windows
that you can still see through, but also offers protection from predators. A door will
also need to be crafted as you build your new home (if you don't have one already).

After finishing your home and crafting a furnace, you will need to make chests to
place in your new home. Move your crafting table to your new home as well, or just
craft a new one. You can label yourchests with signs so you know exactly is in each
one. I, for example, have some labeled "Food", "Saltpeter", "Raw Meat", "Cooked
Meat", etc.

Mining

You should already have stone tools and weapons at this point. You now need to
start gathering iron, saltpeter, and diamonds.

While mining with your stone pickaxe, pick up ONLY iron ore. Once you have
enough, make an iron pickaxe and continue. An iron pickaxe is needed to acquire
many of the ores you will enounter (ex:diamond ore). You can still use a stone
pickaxe to break cobblestone if you wish.

The biggest issue when mining is getting lost. Make sure you leave torches as
markers. Don't just place the torches randomly. They can serve as a sort of "path" for
you to follow. This is especially important when mining in a cave, as the cave may
have many tunnels to explore.

Once you have the supplies to do so, craft a magnet and compass so you will never
lose your home. The page Staying On Course has more tips to avoid getting lost.

Be sure to have a magnet and compass before going any further, OR just continue
exploring a smaller amount of terrain until you get there. Way-point markers can be
used. (See tips page)

Now you're ready to move on to farming and obtaining riding animals!!

Obtaining Horses

Horses, Camels, or donkeys will be needed as you progress. They allow you to travel
longer distances in a shorter amount of time, and help you escape from predators
faster. Horses are found in hot forest areas, donkeys and camels in the desert. To
mount them, you will need a saddle, which is crafted from leather (comes
from wolves and coyotes) and sticks. You will also need a whistle, which is crafted
fromiron ingots.

When searching for horses, you can take home more than one at a time! (Given you
have more than 1 saddle, that is). Here's how (Please note you MUST have
a compass and magnet for this method):

1. Find a herd of horses. They are usually found in groups of 2-5.

2. Place a saddle on each horse.
3. Using your whistle, lead the horses back home. You can ride one while leading
the others if you wish. The reason you need to have a compass is because you
will have to lead your horses around obstacles such as cliffs, large hills, etc. so
they do not get hurt. Chances are, you will not be able to use a straight path as
you would with way-point markers.
4. When you get home, have a fence surrounded by cheap blocks (dirt, sand, etc.)
waiting. This is so your horses can easily get in the fence, but not out.
(Fences need to be 2 blocks high, as donkeys andcamels can jump a
single fence.)

When only taking one horse at a time, simply ride your horse home. Have
a whistle handy in case you fall off. Way-point markers can be used here. You will
not have to avoid so many obstacles.
Farming Crops and Animals

To farm crops, you will need to collect seeds (you should already have cotton seeds)
and a water supply (do this by gathering water in a bucket, or making a well to
retrieve water from.). Fence an area in withwooden fences so animals cannot ruin
your soil. Till dirt with a rake to make soil. Put saltpeter on the moisturized soil to
fertilize, and place your cotton seeds on the soil. They will grow into cotton plants,
which cotton wads can be obtained from. You then make canvas from the wads, and
you are ready to craft some clothing !

Animal farming is also an important aspect of survival. For this, you will need to lay
out a large fence (this is why we chose a flat area to live) 1 or 2 blocks tall (2 blocks
tall will keep predators out) and put cheap blocks such as sand or leaves around
your fence. If your fence is 2 blocks tall, make stairs. Throw tall grass into the fence.
If there are cows around, they will go right into your fence!! Other
undesiredanimals may get into your fence as well, such as gnus, but you can kill them
later. If no cows are around, they can be obtained later with a whistle (they run from
the sound).

Clothing

As you farm your cotton, make canvas from the cotton wads and put them aside in
a chest for later. You also need to hunt animals that drop fur and leather and set them
aside too.

Once you have enough canvas stored, you need to make clothing . (See each
individual clothing page for crafting recipes). After crafting clothing , you are ready to
do more intense exploring! You can now go out as far as you like (be sure to pack
lightly. Only what you need! This means an extra set of clothing, food, and weapons.)
You can always find your way home with your compass.

I do not suggest sleeping while exploring unless you make shacks with spare food and
a spare compass in a chest. If you die, you will go back to your last sleeping spot, and
your compass will be gone. And then you won't be able to go back home until you
have mined at your new location and gathered enough resources to make
another compass. You can be out for a max of 2 days and nights before passing out.
As you go further info your adventure, you will be able to acquire enough resources to
make more compasses to leave in shacks along the way, and you will begin to become
more familiar with the terrain. All we need is just a little patience ;)

Description (from Recipaedia)

When you are out in the cold without proper clothes, your body temperature will drop.
You view will start to freeze over and you will start losing health. Find a warmer
place or get near fire to warm and dry yourself.

Too much warmth will do you no good either, standing too close to a large fire will
cause you to overheat.

Sheltered areas are warmer than outside. Plugging all the holes and locking doors
will make a shelter warmer still. Even a small hole open to the elements will admit
draughts and make a large difference to temperature. Make a fire inside your shelter
to make it homely warm and allow you to take your clothes off.

Being wet dramatically increases your susceptability to cold, find a warm place to dry
yourself faster.

The best way to deal with cold is to wear multiple layers of thick, dry clothes. You
need to cover your entire body, leaving feet or head unclothed will defeat most of the
warming effect other clothes have. Clothes made of animal fur are best for keeping
cold out.

A Short Movie About Freezing-0

This is a short video about getting cold.

Getting cold can be a major problem in the game. If you get wet, your body
temperature will drop fast and you have to dry off before it will begin to warm again.

The best way to get warm and dry is to run to a warmer biome, if you are outside and
there is one close enough. The biomes are typically not huge in the standard game so
this is a good option.

The best way to stay warm is to be dressed properly. You can dress in layers for best
effect. See Clothing for more information. This will not help you if you get wet,
however. Any insulation provided by clothing is removed while you are wet.
Changing your clothes won't make a difference.

You may be able to dry off and warm up by building a quick shelter and sealing
yourself off from the open air. This will not work in the coldest biomes, though.

If you are wet and stuck in the cold or plan to stay in it then you can stay warm by
fire.

Warming By Fire

Outdoors

You can set a coal block down and set it on fire with a match. This will give some
amount of heat however, in the open outdoors it will only warm about 2 blocks away
from it. A bigger fire with 3 blocks will warm an area about 4-5 blocks away. This
will let you get warm without being caught on fire.
Realize that it takes a minute to warm the area and more time to warm your body. If
you start your fire when you are already freezing, you may not be able to warm up fast
enough. Be prepared to start your fire as soon as you start getting too cold.

For the most heat, you need every side and the top of the block burning. Leave open
all the blocks around the coal block and the fire block above it - a 3 x 3 x 2 high space
with the coal block in the center.

There is a hint that we may have 'normal' campfires in the next upgrade. If you wish
to see what (little) information there is now, see Campfires.

Indoors

Putting a fire in a sealed area is much more effective. If you dig an emergency pit-
shelter, you can dig it out a bit bigger and start a coal block fire. This will dry and
warm you quickly.

To best heat any indoor area every opening must be closed off to the outside air. The
fire will heat up to 30 blocks away and keep you comfortable to about 20 blocks.
'Comfortable' means you won't get warning messages about the chill. If you are using
a cave that's less than 20 blocks deep, you can just place the block at the back of the
cave and it will stay cozy inside.

You can design houses to use the full effect of fires even without keeping a fire place
in every room. See Heating Your House for more details.

Cooling Off
Usually you will not need to worry about staying cool. You will most likely only get
over-heated if you stay too close to a fire or stay around magma. When you get
overheated, your vision will start to turn black and your character will groan and
complain. Once this starts, you need to get away from the heat as fast as possible. This
fading will repeat several times until you get away from the heat, or the character
passes out and dies.

The only known way to combat heat is to move to a cooler area. Jumping in water will
not cool you off any quicker. Get at least 20 blocks away from magma to cool off or
seal yourself away from it. If you seal away the heat, you can wait to cool down and
then try to break out again and make a run for safety.
You get the message "You Feel Hot" when your body heat starts to warm.

This message appears when you are too hot and need to cool down quickly.

This message appears when you are nearly overheated.

As your body heat rises too high, your health falls.
Notes
The 'wetness' is related to your body, not your clothes. If you are wet,
changing your clothes to 'dry' ones will NOT reduced your wetness or warm
you faster.
Although getting wet will make you get cold faster, it will NOT cool you any
faster if you are overheated. Being wet will NOT prevent you from getting
overheated.

How to cook and smelt

Batch Slots

Open the furnace by tapping on it. A window will pop up with the furnace interface
on the left side and your inventory on the right. There are three sections in the
interface. The top section is for the raw material. Most uses need only one box of the
batch input. The second box is for additional materials or when you need to use a
water bucket. The middle section is for the fuel and the bottom is where the finished
product is put. To exit the furnace interface, tap the inventory or the body button on
the left of your screen. See the User Interface to learn more about all the buttons.
Most furnace uses need only one box of the batch input. This includes all cooking of
meats, baking bread from dough, smelting of the ores,
making glass from sand, granite from cobblestone, coal from wood
,bricks from clay and white pigment from limestone.

Fuel Slot

Drag your fuel into the middle box, where the coal chunk is in the picture.

Drag your raw material into one of the boxes in the batch section (top). You can exit
and leave the furnace and the materials will cook or smelt on their own. They will be
put into the bottom section as they are finished and you can come back and pick them
up later. If you put something in the other batch box, it will stop the cooking process.

Output Slots

The three slots under the top section are a visual aide to show that the fire is burning.
The fire will keep burning until all the fuel is used up or the materials are finished
smelting.
NOTE: You can waste a lot of fuel if you only smelt or cook a few items at a time!
Once the raw material is used up or removed, the fuel will NOT keep burning until it
is exhausted, as in other games. One coal chunk can smelt up to 11 ore chunks but
if you only put one ore in the materials box, the coal will only smelt that one and
then go out!!!

Progress Bar

Cooking Eggs (batch use)

Eggs must be cooked using a water bucket. Each egg needs one full bucket to cook.
However, it does NOT use up the water - it simply has to be there. When each egg is
cooked, it will be moved to the output box on the bottom. One water bucket will also
be moved with it, into the other output box.

If you don't want to make a lot of buckets for cooking, you can do it with only 2 or 3.
Three buckets is a lot easier than two but the process is the same. You'll have to keep
the furnace open the entire cooking time to use this method.
Place all the eggs in one batch input box. Make sure there is enough fuel. Place your
three buckets in the other batch box and the eggs will start cooking.

As soon as one egg is done, it will be moved to the output along with one bucket.
You must then take that bucket and move it back into the batch box with the rest of
the buckets. You will have more time to move the buckets when you use more than 2
at once. You must move them BEFORE the last bucket is used from the batch box or
it will start using up another coal chunk.
Keep doing this until all the eggs are cooked.

Other Batch uses

Some items are created in the furnace with two different materials.

To make marble, place limestone in one batch box and sand in the other. They will
smelt together to make the marble in the ouput box.

All colored paints start off with a white paint bucket. To make white paint, you need
a bucket of water and one white pigment for each bucket of paint. Place the buckets in
one batch box and the pigments in the other.

The same process is used to change the color of paint. Place the paint bucket in one
batch box and the colorant in the other batch box. See painting for the recipes.

Fuel For The Furnace

In order to smelt the above items, you will need to obtain fuel. The following can be
used as fuel, in order of their fuel value:

Coal Blocks (uses 9 coal chunks) 600 (Keep in mind that using 9 coal chunks
give more energy than a solid coal block since 9x80=720)
Coal Chunks 80
Solid Diamond Block 40

Oak Wood 20 *

- If you need to burn wood as fuel, the most efficient way is to craft them into
slabs. Wooden planks give the same total fuel as wood blocks, but you get 4
slabs from 3 planks. All other crafted wooden products end up giving less total
fuel, so they should only be burned to get rid of them, or if you have no choice.

Notes
When you gather wood, you will also get a lot of leaves. Use these to cook or
smelt small amounts of items to save coal and get rid of all the excess leaves.
Cacti will grow in any condition as long as it's on sand. This provides a
renewable fuel source.

Crafting is essential to survival. All tools, weapons and most buiding materials are
made through crafting.

This page covers the general crafting process, not specific crafting recipes. All
available recipes can be found in the recipaedia, through the in-game help. You can
search for any individual item and its recipe on this wiki by using the SEARCH bar at
the top of every page.

Contents
[show]

Description (From Recipaedia)

Crafting is a process of making more complicated items out of simpler ones, using a
crafting table or the crafting area.

To craft, you need to place ingredients in the crafting slots in a pattern specific to the
item being crafted. All crafting recipes are available in RECIPAEDIA.
To access Recipaedia during the game. Click on the "...", then the "?" on the pop out
options.

After clicking on the "?", the Help Topics page will come up. Click on the
"Recipaedia" button and all descriptions and recipes will be there. You will need to
scroll through all of them or click on the various categories to more directly find the
recipe you are looking for.
There are two sizes of crafting areas: 2x2 and 3x3. The smaller area is always
available and can be accessed by pressing the crafting button. To craft more
complicated items on a 3x3 area you need to make a crafting table, place it
somewhere in the world and click on it.

You open the personal crafting area by touching the crafting button on the screen.
This is the button with the four squares. See the GUI page for more information. You
open the crafting table by tapping on it when you are close enough. The crafting
window is similar for both. See the pictures below.

The crafting window has two major spaces in it. The left side is the crafting section.
The crafting grid is on the top and is either 2x2 or 3x3. The ouput box is under that.
The right side of the window shows your inventory. Drag the materials you need from
your inventory onto the specified spaces in the crafting grid.

Be aware that when you are using either crafting area, the game IS NOT
PAUSED. You can still be attacked while crafting, so make sure you are in a safe
place BEFORE crafting.

Crafting Process
The process for crafting is the same for either crafting area size. Most of the items you
need will have to be made on the crafting table, in the 3x3 area.

1. Find the item you wish to craft in the recipaedia.

2. Look at the materials needed and the pattern they have to be in. You must
have all the materials in your inventory.
3. Exit the recipaedia and return to gameplay.
4. Open the crafting table or the handcrafting grid and place the specified
materials in the pattern shown in the recipaedia.
5. When the pattern is correct, your item will appear at the bottom of the
crafting window. Drag the item into your inventory to accept it. You can
rearrange all the materials at will before you remove the finished product.
6. Close the crafting window by tapping the crafting button on the left of the
screen. If you close the window before removing the finished product, all
materials will stay in the crafting table or the personal crafting grid.

2x2 Crafting
The 2x2 crafting area is also called handcrafting because you do not need a crafting
table to use it. You can only make rather simple items like sticks, wooden
planks, crafting tables, etc.

If your inventory is full, you can even use the 4 slots in the personal crafting area as
additional storage. However, you will NOT be able to craft anything here untill you
remove the stored items from the crafting slots.

Below is an example of the 2x2 crafting table, being used to make a Crafting Table:

Personal Crafting UI
Handcrafting List

Here is the list of things you can handcraft:

Lantern, Pumpkin Seeds, Tall Grass Seeds, all Flower Seeds, all Saplings, Wooden
Tip Arrow, Fire Arrow, Iron Bolt, Explosive Bolt,Electric Wire, Stone Bricks, Brick
Wall

3x3 Crafting
Using the Crafting Table, you have a 3x3 crafting area and can make more complex
tools, items, etc. All crafted items may be made through the crafting table.

Again, all crafting recipes you need are in the Recipaedia.

Clothing is a new SurvivalCraft feature that was added on version 1.26.[1][2] It is very
essential since version 1.26, as you cannot survive the cold without it. When you first
start a new world, you will have tattered clothes, salmon socks and leather sandals.
After each respawn, however, you will only be wearing boxers.

Description (from Recipaedia)

Wearing clothing provides warmth in cold climates and armor protection during
combat. You can access clothing interface by using clothing button.

There are 4 clothing slots on your body: Head, Torso, Legs and Feet. Each slot can
have multiple clothing items, layered one on top of each other. The effects of multiple
clothing items combine.

Not everything can be worn on top of anything else, for example you will not be able
to wear a T-shirt on top of a fur coat.

Wearing thick clothes in one slot while leaving another slot bare will not afford much
warmth. It's imperative to cover entire body to really benefit from clothing. It's the
thinnest piece of clothing that determines how much heat you lose.
Crafting
Lightweight clothing is crafted from cotton, a new plant added in 1.26. You will have
to grow cotton plants before you can craft these clothes.

Heavier clothes are made from fur and leather. These materials are 'dropped' from
different animals when you kill them. See those pages to learn which animals drop
them.

Armor can be made from sticks and string, or from iron and even may be coated
with diamond.

Each piece of clothing has its own page on this wiki as listed below. See those pages
for recipes for the different pieces of clothing.
NOTE: The old shirt and pants are not craftable.

Dying Clothes
To dye clothes, you take a paint bucket of your choice and put it and the desired piece
of clothing, into a furnace.

See the painting page to learn how to make paint buckets.

See the smelting page to learn about using the furnace.

Use
To apply clothing, open the person interface with the body button on the left of the
screen. Then drag the clothing from your inventory and drop it on the body image. If
the piece is not put on, you are probably wearing something in that slot already and
have to take that off first.

Clothing can help protect your your character from cold and attacks or may simply for
cosmetic reasons.

Notes
Getting wet affects your body and ALL clothes in your possesion. If you get wet,
you cannot simply change clothes to get dry.

Clothes will wear out over time. Getting clothes wet makes them wear out
twice as fast.
Remember that all clothing will be damaged when you are engaged in battle, or
take a fall. Even cotton will provide a little protection from animal bites but
will get damaged easily.

Wearing heavy clothes and/or armor slows you down. However, diamond
armor doesn't slow you down, and leather boots make you run faster.

Wearing heavy clothes or armor will make you sink in water. Wearing cotton,
leather, and fur clothes prevent you from cold.
It was first revealed on the new default skin image which is a half-nude skin.
Kaalus originally planned to have clothing in SurvivalCraft since the 1.17
update.

Beginner's Survival Tips

These tips are for the first time player, or any newly started game. They assume you
do not have a lot of resources and have not yet built a permanent house.

Find a decent place for your shelter before the sun begins to set. Predators
will be on the prowl as soon as it gets dark and a decent amount of time is
required to dig or build a sufficient shelter before the sun sets.
Get into the habit of sleeping in the strongest clothing you have and keeping
your best weapon in-hand. Unless you are in a very small shelter, an animal
could spawn inside with you!
Until you have good clothing and a fair supply of material, it is easiest to
survive if you stay in or very close to desert biomes. You will not freeze, it does
not rain, you can see farther away (no trees) and you can usually find food
animals nearby. However, lions, rhinos and other dangerous predators and
territorial animals are also desert dwellers.
Don't leave your shelter during bad weather. The rain will make you get cold
much faster, plus lightning is also a risk worth considering.
Don't go into a snow biome without protection or you will freeze.
Stay out of the water unless you are in a very warm biome and even then
watch your step! Don't step on rays. They don't like it and will attack you.
Piranhas and barracudas and sharks and whales and orcas will all try to eat
you if you're in their waters.
Watch your step everywhere! It's too easy to think you are only walking over a
hill but the other side might be a sheer cliff or there might be a grass trap in an
open field.
Carrying capacity is limited. Only carry what you need. You can use the
personal crafting slots as extra storage, if needed. Throw away things that are
easy to replace such as leaf blocks, if you're in a forest. You can also craft
chests and leave extra items in them if you don't want to discard anything.
When playing in any survival-based mode, make sure to get the basics first:
food and shelter. The shelter can be simply a hole and the food can be bird
eggs or pumpkins.

Shelter Tips
Tips for building a better shelter whether it's just a one-night-stand or a permanent
residence.

A lion through a door

Beasts can poke their head right through doors and bite you if you're in the
next block.

A lion through a corner

If you have a wall where two block are touching only at their corners, beasts
will poke their head through that corner and bite you if you're close enough.
But, you can also use this fact to kill them or scare them off, without even
leaving your shelter.

To make your shelter "fire-proof", use non-flammable materials like dirt, stone
etc.
To make your shelter "lightning-proof", you may want to add a cobblestone or
anything not flammable as protection for the roof.
A one block hole in the ground, two blocks deep with protect you from all
beast attacks. But they will smell you and come to try and taste the new meat.
It may take all of a day just to drive them all away and leave you no time to
run home. The same goes for a pillar, plus werewolves can jump 3 blocks high
- even higher off the shoulders of another werewolf!
You can sleep in a one block pit if it's 3 blocks deep and you fill the opening.
However think about whether you actually want to make this your spawn
point!
All beasts seem to dislike narrow tunnels (one block wide), especially those
with sharp turns. It probably annoys their path finding routine. Call it natural
claustrophobia. So, you can often be safe without a door if you have a one
block tunnel at least 5 blocks deep that takes a turn into another narrow
tunnel. Hyenas seem to be the only animals that will even explore this kind of
tunnel and they won't pass the turn.
A trap door in a regular doorway, or a stairway will NOT keep out the beasts.
Just the taller ones.
Doors place their hinges on the left by default. To have the door hinged on the
right, leave out the bottom block to the left of the doorway.
A door may not place properly if the side walls are glass. To get around this,
make the side from something else first, then place the door, then replace the
side with the glass.
You can place a door 'sideways' by facing along the wall instead of looking
through the doorway. This will also make the door 'inverted', if it's electrified.
I.e., it starts off open.

Mining Tips
Digging Straight Up or Straight Down

Do not do this as it may just kill you or trap you. If you did not pack any blocks or
ladders, you can get trapped in your "mine" if you dig straight down. Using this kind
of mining is very dangerous, as it may lead it to death. (as well as digging straight up.)

You may fall into a cave, which may contain bears and kill you if the fall does
not.
You might fall into a lava pool, which instantly kills you.
When digging straight up, you may uncover a column of sand or gravel and
this will fall on your head and suffocate you.
If you dig not that deep enough, and the hole is big, a hostile animal may go
inside and kill you.
You may take fall damage that can cost your life.

Digging through mountains

This is much safer than digging straight up or down but is also dangerous, especially
if you are not looking on the ground and fall into a cave. Other dangers in doing this
are:

A hostile animal may go inside the mine and can kill you.
A hostile animal may spawn inside.
Gravel/sand may fall on you and you will get killed. This can happen even if
you are not digging straight up. Sometimes there is a bigger area of gravel or
sand suspended above the cave. This whole area will fall if even one part of it
is disturbed.
~Plant Champion

Digging Anywhere

You should always be careful when working around large areas of sand or gravel.
Sometimes there is a cave underground and the sand or gravel is suspended over
nothing. If you make even one block in this area fall, the entire area will collapse into
the mine. If you are standing on top of this and the cave is deep enough, you will die
from the fall. Even placing a torch next to one of these block can start the avalanche.
If you are mining for sand or gravel, only take the top layer off at any time. This
reduces the chance that a collapse will start.

Carrying Capacity while Mining

If you are going to mine for any significant period of time, it may be helpful to carry a
crafting table and chest(s) down into the mine with you. That way you can stash some
blocks or ores in the chest instead of carrying them around all the time.

If you find a magma pool while mining you may want to consider throwing stuff that
you don't want into the magma to dispose of it. This is not as advisable with version
1.26, since staying very near magma for longer periods of time can be deadly.

You can save carrying space by taking any malachite chunks and combining them into
blocks. That lets you carry 9 times as much in the same space. You can easily break
them back down when you're at your base or home. This is helpful if you are running
into a lot of copper ore. Do N0T do this with any other ore as it will take up M0RE
space. For example you can carry 40 coal chunks in one stack. If you make coal
blocks, you can only carry 4 in one stack and that equals only 36 chunks.

If you are going to smelt certain blocks or ores once you get them back to base, it may
be better to do that in the mine (but N0T copper). That way the coal needed to smelt
them will not have to be carried out of the mine and you will have more room to carry
other things.

Breaking Blocks
Certain tools work better on different blocks. You can be more efficient when using
the right tool.

Shovels are best for digging soils. Axes are for chopping plants and electrics.
Pickaxes are used to break stones. Some tools may work a bit faster even on 'other'
types of blocks. For example a shovel can break stone a little faster than your bare
hands.

Some ores may need stronger tools to get the ore to drop. For example, diamond ore
needs at least an iron pickaxe or it will drop nothing.

~108.17.83.163

Do not use expensive tools when doing simple jobs like:

Breaking leaves (suggested : hand)

Breaking wood (suggested : wood/stone axe)
Breaking soil (suggested : hand, wood/stone shovel)
Breaking stone (suggested: hand, wood/stone pickaxe)
Other easily broken blocks (sand, gravel, etc.)

Do not use tools not intended for that type of block (like destroying wood by pickaxe
or destroying bricks with a shovel), unless you need to break them in a hurry and
lack,the sufficient tools.

Animals Tips
Leaving Your Animals

A common mistake players tend to make is to leave their captive animals (such as
horses, cows, etc.) alone for a long time. When going on a long journey, you may not
think about how your animals may be doing back at home. You need to visit your
animals weekly, as they will die without your acknowledgement of their existence. As
long as you visit them, they will not die because of neglect. If you have a cow use a
whistle to guide it. If you have a horse ride it. You can also choose to feed them grass,
rye etc. removed from the ground and thrown to them.

~Chart
Jumping Fences

When you acquire a donkey, horse, or camel, a tip to keep them enclosed in their

fence is to put a double fence up for them to stay in.

Donkeys, horses and camels can jump single fences, and because of their walk
around behavior, they will wander off, jumping the fence if necessary. So you may go
to bed with your animals in a fence, but when you wake up, they may be wandering
around! Double fences can eliminate this trouble for good. Note that if you have a
tiger they can jump double fences. So for a tiger you will want to put triple fences.

~Chart

Wooden fences actually give very little protection against ANY animal. You can
easily jump a wooden fence by placing yourself directly BETWEEN THE POSTS!
So, it's no surprise that many animals can do the same. Stone and iron fences don't
have this problem but still can be jumped by the above animals (and tigers and
werewolves, of course).

Thanks to viper for providing this tip.

Using Your Whistle

Although the whistle is a helpful tool in Survivalcraft, you need to remember that
your horses, donkeys, and camels will only come to you if you are within a 30 block
range. So it is not a good idea to allow your saddled animals to wander about, thinking
you can summon them with a whistle. It is a good idea to keep your animals in a
double fence, and keep the whistle just for emergencies, etc. if you fall off of your
horse, and it continues to run, you can summon it again. Using the whistle will also
make cows and bulls run away.

~Chart

Animal Aggression
Since the 1.26 update, animals now act with aggression towards each other. This
means that not only will predators go after you, but they will go after your livestock:
Cows, horses, donkeys, ostriches, camels, etc. So it is a good idea to get bulls for your
cow fields, and build your fences 3 blocks high and 2 thick. This way, predators that
can jump high (tigers and werewolves) won't be able to get into your fences. Plus, if
predators like wolves manage to get in or spawn inside the fence, once they decide to
go after your cows, the bulls will chase them off, trying to kill them in the process.
Rhinos may also attack wolves, lions, tigers, and any other predators, which may
include you. Their attack strength will generally destroy the animal within a few hits,
and they will take on bears and win.

~Chart

Cetaceans in Captivity

Capturing Cetaceans

Orcas and belugas are both caught the same way; building a sea pen, going out in the
ocean, hitting one, and leading it back to land. I recommend you put a magnet in or
near the pen you will catch the beluga/orca in, so you can use a compass to easily
navigate your way home.

Making a Tank

If you would like to keep your whales in a tank, make it very big because many orcas
and belugas die from being cramped. Be sure that the tank is at least three blocks deep
and two blocks of air above (to breath). If your whales do not have access to air the
tank could drown and die.
Canals

If you are making canals to a main tank on land, make them at least two blocks deep
and four blocks wide; neither orca or beluga can fit in spaces that are less than 4 x 4.

Animal horns

New players may tend to stay away from Gnus and Reindeer because of their horns.
The truth is that they won't attack you and aren't even aggressive, but attack back very
rarely if attacked (applies to female cows as well).

A bull will become hostile if you attack him or attack or milk his cow(s). There is also
a very rare chance that if you are in a snowy area you may find a white bull. They
create 1-8 pieces of bacon upon death and are stronger than regular bulls. They do not
protect any cows.

Hunting Tips
Be very careful with any projectile weapon - spear, bow or crossbow. The
ammo can bounce off objects and WILL often fly straight back at you. This can
kill you!
Explosive bolts will throw flaming debris in all directions. Be very careful when
using them.
NEVER try to kill a Beluga Whale or Orca. You will most likely die.
Don't fight strong animals without armor or at least a good retreat strategy.
You can pick up a lot of the arrows you shoot. This is much more difficult in
rough or grassy terrain. The arrows can be hard to spot in these areas.
Stone tipped arrows are cheap and very effective.

Hunting Fish

Hunting fish can be difficult, as the fish/rays will swim away very quickly. I suggest
trying to hunt in smaller lakes, that way you can more easily corner the fish/rays.
Also, be careful not to step on the rays when wading through water. They can sting
you; brown rays have an attack power of 1, and yellow 5.
~Chart

Hunting Birds (Flying)

When hunting birds, it is best to hunt them from afar, as they will fly away if you get
too close. I use a bow and arrows, the arrows will kill the birds in 1 shot.

(If you wish to hunt birds from a close distance, you may use the sneak button so you
do not scare the birds. This tip is not so useful in 1.26 - sneak does NOT work very
well any more!)

~Chart

Hunting Birds (Non-Flying)

When hunting birds that do not fly, Ostriches and Cassowaries, I like to attack them
head on with a diamond edge machete. This way, I can continue to hit them as I walk
backwards, and then chase them when they run away. It works really well for me, but
you can also hunt them from afar with arrows like a flying bird.

~Chart

Hunting Passive Animals

When you are hunting passive animals for meat, like gnus and such, I like to attack
them as I do a flightless bird. Head on. As of 1.26, even passive animals may retaliate
when attacked, but they are mostly a chase-and-kill deal. Hit them so that they will
run in the direction of the flattest land. It is a lot harder to chase them uphill, and it
will save you a lot of energy. I do not suggest hunting them with arrows, as they run
quickly and you will have a trail of arrows to pick up later.

~Chart

Hunting Cattle

When hunting cattle, I attack the bulls first. I hit one, and all of the rest run after you
as well. It is vital that you pay close attention to what order you hit the bulls in (if
there are more than 1). If you keep hitting the same one over and over, it will cower
before the others. But if you alternate and hit them all the same number of times, they
will all run at about the same time, and you can easily chase them down without
losing your herd of cows. It also saves you a lot of energy because you don't have to
run as far to get the stray bulls.
To kill the cows, the same rules apply as passive animals (as shown above).

~Chart

You can use food to separate one or two individuals from a herd of cattle. Gather
some of what they like to eat, before confronting them. Then walk around them until
one or two are a bit separated from the rest. Then throw down a bit of their food and
watch. If only one or two come after the food, you should be able to get them away
from the rest. Wait until they are right over the food. They could even be starting to
eat it but try to not let them finish it. Instead, grab it back up, then move a bit farther
away from the herd and throw it down again. If you're lucky, only the tempted one(s)
will go after the food again. You can repeat this until they are far enough away from
the others so that the bulls won't see you kill them. Then get out your machete, say
your thanks and start swinging!

Hunting Predators

When you hunt predators because they are too close to your house, livestock, etc.,
make sure to have at least an iron edge machete. You MUST have a weapon that is
not going to fail you. Just attack the predator head on, hitting them as you walk
backwards. You need to pay close attention, as you do not want to be injured in the
process. (Yes, you can do it without being injured. I took on a pack of 5+ wolves and
was unharmed.)

You can also stand on a 4 block high stack of any block you wish, and hit the
predators as they try to attack you. A great way to make your "tower" is to place your
blocks 4 high, and then put ladders on the side so you can easily get up and down.

~Chart

Hunting on Horseback

It is a lot easier to hunt on horseback if you are focused enough. You also need to use
a palomino horse, as they are never stubborn. Horses move very quickly, and they
help save you a lot of time when hunting.

Hunting Passive Animals on Horseback

To hunt passive animals on horseback, simply shoot them with an arrow,
chase, and repeat. You can also do this with a machete, but I like to use
arrrows so I don't have to get right up on my prey. After your kill is dead, grab
the meat, and go back and pick up your arrows.
Hunting Predators on Horseback
When hunting predators on horseback, run by the predator, hit them with a
machete, and continue running. You can turn your body while the horse runs
forward, and keep hitting the predator as you run. The horse is faster than
lions, tiger, bears, rhinos, coyotes, etc. so you won't have to worry about
being caught.

Hunting Using Traps

What I like to do when hunting using traps:

1. Dig a pit 8 blocks deep with desired width. Place a layer of wire-through blocks
(wire facing the top) on the 3rd layer from the bottom, leaving the botton 2
layers EMPTY (for now). Also, light this under-area with torches.
2. Put spiked planks on the layer of wire-through blocks you just created.
3. Wire all of the spiked planks together.
4. Create a staircase leading to your trap. Make it level to the spiked planks.
5. Wire your planks to a button; make it accessable from your staircase. To do
this, simply dig BESIDE your staircase, and bring your wires up through there.
Attach to button. This makes it possible to contract and spike your spiked
planks.
6. Put a door on your staricase - the area level to the planks. Make sure it is flush
to the spikes, this way no predators can find a "safe spot".
7. Cover the outside of your starcase with trapdoors and the top of your trap
with grasstraps.
8. Stand in your hidden staircase at night on a new/full moon to attract
werewolves (to farm diamonds), or on any night to attract bears (for fur) or
wolves and coyotes (for leather).
9. When an animal falls into your trap and dies, you can contract the spikes, get
whatever it dropped, and put more grasstraps on the top of your pit - all
without leaving your staircase/trap!!!
It does take a long time to make, and a lot of materials, but it is WORTH IT!! I have
been using this method since 1.24, and I have harvested soooooo many resources!!

If you need some help building this, further directions, etc. Just leave me a message
on my wall: Message Wall:ChartreuseNarwhal. I know I may not have given the best
directions :P

I will add pictures as soon as I can ;)

Staying On Course
Using A Magnet

Using a magnet is a great way to ensure you don't lose home. Simply craft a Magnet,
place it close to your home, and carry a compass with you whenever you plan to stray
afar. You can also just craft a compass, and It will attract to your last sleep position.

~Chart

Building a Monument

If you don't have a compass or magnet and still want to travel around, you can build a
tall tower near your home. When you are close enough, you will see this and can use
it to guide you home. Don't build a tall tower of just one block - then you can't get
back down! Build a two-block tower as high as you can then stand on one and destroy
it below you. This will bring you back down to ground level. It's best to use sand for
this one and just break it with your hand. Otherwise you will wear out your tools fast.

Way-point Markers

When Hunting, Exploring, etc.

Using markers made from cheap materials to find your way home on short adventures
will help prevent you from getting lost. You can use leaves, dirt, sand, etc. to make
your markers. Just stack them 3-4 blocks high as you go, making more as you lose
visibility of the last one. You can also put torches on top of them if you need to find
your way home in the dark.

When Mining

Placing torches/wicker lamps in tunnels in your mine or cave will prevent you from
getting lost. I put torches on the floor/wall when I go IN a tunnel, and them remove
them on my way OUT. This way, when you are exploring caves with many tunnels,
you will never have more than 1 lit tunnel, and you will not get lost.

Other Tips
Hotbar caution

You need to be aware of some things that are NOT recommended to keep in your
hotbar. Some items will destroy or damage your environment and self if not used with
care. If you have any of these items in your hand while trying to open a chest for
instance, something else will happen and that can be very damaging.

Instead, they do another action based on their own purposes:

Match - will set the item on fire

Bucket (empty or lava/water) - will dump its contents or try to capture some
Rake - will try to cultivate the chest or door... instead?!?
Whistle - will sound off
Boat - will be placed
Saltpeter - will be wasted

You should not keep any of these in your hotbar to be safe. The match and filled
buckets can do a lot of damage if used accidentally and should never be held in your
hand, unless you are using them - carefully.

Using Explosives
A mistake on some players is using explosives. Explosives may damage the terrain
and even kill you. It wastes a lot of gunpowder, so be careful on using it. Another
common mistake is using explosives to get ore. Using explosive to get ore is not wise,
as it may just destroy the ore and drop nothing. Gunpowder is hard to find, and using
explosives to get rare ore is not a wise decision, so be careful when using explosives!
And using explosives after the 1.25 update can cause damage to you even if you are
far away due to the debris. If you have animals it can kill them too.

~Plant Champion

If you do wish or need to use use TNT kegs, you should surely use a remote
detonator. Any exploding keg will throw flaming debris as far away as 30 blocks!
Unless you have a clear, quick path away from it, you should never light them with a
match. Also building a diamond or Iron block shelter can protect you If your further
than 6 blocks away.

Dual Worlds (cheat - or map substitute?)

If you get really lost and absolutely have to find out where you are and where you
need to go, you may want to resort to this trick/cheat. Or if you like exploring new
caves or certain types of terrain, it can be useful as well. It doesn't work with made or
modified worlds - adventure maps...

Find the seed of the world you are having problems in.

Create a new world with that same seed but in creative mode. Set the time of day to
morning (or evening).

Now you can fly around this world and try to figure out where you are in the other
world, or look for interesting features or whatever. It's easier to keep track of where
you fly in this world by keeping it morning (the sun is always in the East) or evening
(etc.). Before you go off flying you should build a pillar at the dropoff point, and
place torches or even more pillars along the way, to make it easier to get back to
spawn. Then when you find what you are looking for, you can backtrack to the dropoff
point to help find your way in the 'real' world. If you already have a base in the 'real'
world, build pillars there to help find it as well.
To use this to locate special features, start where you are in the 'real' version and
search around until you find what you are looking for. Check several landmarks along
the way back and make note of the distances between them. Now you can start the
'real' version and retrace your steps to your goal, using the landmarks you noted
before.

This trick is somewhat like cheating but more like having an interactive 3-D map.
Since there are no maps in SC, this is a reasonable substitute, IMHO.

Conserving Coal (chunks)

Early in the game it can be essential to conserve your coal usage, especially if you
don't find any exposed coal ore in the first days of survival.

You can make coal by burning wood in a furnace. This requires 3 wood block of any
type and so is very expensive. Because of this you want to use this coal as efficiently
as possible.

One coal chunk can be used to smelt or cook 11 or more items. However, if you have
only one bucket you can only boil ONE egg per chunk!!! (You'll need to make
buckets from copper to cook eggs.) So, until you have plenty of coal to use or two or
more copper buckets, eat your eggs raw. To cook eggs using only two buckets place
all your eggs (of one type, preferably 11 per coal chunk) and two buckets with water
in the source boxes in your furnace. Then put coal in the furnace. Keep an eye on the
buckets. Whenever one transfers to the exit box move it back up to the source box
with the other bucket of water. Do this until you are done cooking all the eggs.

Also, the coal will NOT continue to burn once the supply of material is depleted. This
means if you have only 2 bird meat and 2 bacon it will take 2 coal chunks to cook
them, even though one coal can cook many more birds than that. So, when you are
hunting, try to stick to one type of meat so you can put it all in the furnace at once and
use up less coal.

If you want to make torches right away, realize that it requires 4 blocks of wood to
make only 2 torches this way! That's a lot of wood. Wait until you find some easy to
reach coal ore and save your wood for sticks. This should only be an issue for the first
few days since coal is the most plentiful ore in the game. One tip is that you
should never make coal blocks when you run into a lot of coal. It actually takes more
inventory space that way.

Making a Cannon

Kaalus presented a cannon video but he did not show how to fire a bomb out of a
cannon in this information. I will explain how. First, make a cannon model out of any
solid block such as solid copper and iron (solid diamond is not very effective because
it's flammable and is a waste of diamond.) When your cannon model is complete,
place a large gunpowder keg right at the back of your model. Then, equip at least two
bombs, and throw the first bomb in. Then after exactly three seconds (not exactly),
throw the second bomb. This will launch a bomb about 150 blocks. If you don't
understand this is how the cannon works, when the first bomb is thrown into the
cannon, the bomb has a five second delay. Then after three seconds you throw the
second, the first bomb will have two seconds left for you to run. When the first bomb
explodes, it causes the gunpowder keg to explode and launch the second bomb.

WARNING: This method doesn't always work and is best to use Kaalus's cannon
model and when second bomb is thrown into the cannon you only have two seconds
to run.

Counting method: When counting a method is to say Mississippi which takes exactly
(proved by scientists) one second.

Be careful, and before doing this consult the Explosives section. ~Tech3267

Building floating islands

To build a floating island, stack any block as high as you desire your island to float.
Then build your island from anything except sand/gravel, and remove the stack below
the island. You can use sand and gravel in your island, IF you have another block
under them. You can also add water/magma waterfalls to flow off of your island.

This is very easy in creative mode, but takes a bit more time in challenging modes.
(Not impossible though. I have managed it!) ~Chart
Building Garden Roofs

I've always had a problem with my soil ruining. Bears always (and sometimes other
animals) ruin my soil. With this trick, you don't have to build three rakes. All you
need is a stone one and some saltpeter.

Build a garden on your roof, and you can access it with a ladder. Make little
walkways.

Under it, (and lower the ceiling) you are going to need water. Make a little hole where
you can pour water in (make a few holes, the water will run out) an the soil will be
wet.

You can do this with pumpkins and cotton and things like that

When in Water

Swimming

If you are to swim across a body of water, make sure it is narrow enough so that you
can get across without getting tired and drowning.
