Reading Response Reflection
The reading response is an assignment given to me after reading each chapter of books that I

read for AP Language. A single reading response consists of a summary of the chapter, an

analysis of the main events or topics discussed in the chapter, and an analysis of a quote that is

significant in the book or to the class for one reason or another. The goal of a reading response

is to reflect my growth of knowledge of the functions of literature and their effectiveness when

used in specific situations. For this reading response, I responded to chapter two of the book the

class is currently reading- The Other Wes Moore.

In this reading response I made several decisions. The first was when to read and start

the assignment. I decided to complete my reading and assignment ahead of the due date,

giving me additional time in case there was new information that I wanted to add later on. The

second choice I made was to structure my summary to mirror that of the chapters. For my

analysis, I chose to make a connection to a book previously discussed in class- The Tipping

Point. I compared how the situation that Wes Moore found himself in did not help him very much

in taking the right path in his life. Finally, I chose to analyze a quote that implied that Wes

thought of being black as being a personality trait, that it was a thing to be, not simply a pigment

of skin. I analyzed that to think in such a way kept him barred in by his own ideas.
