9370 RNC compatibility matrix

Hardware applicability
The following applicability conditions have to be met for 9370 RNC hardware upgrade
and functioning:
Combination of cards
No combination of PSFP1 and DCPS cards is supported in the same 9370 RNC
because DCPS hardware is more robust. An existing alarm (7078 0059) indicates an
unsupported configuration due to co-existence of PSFP1 and DCPS in the same
switch.
No combination of PSFP1 and eDCPS cards is supported in the same 9370 RNC.
A combination of DCPS and eDCPS is supported in the same 9370 RNC in Iso
capacity. On activation of eDCPS Capacity Increase feature, an RNC must be
equipped with eDCPS cards only. However, only a configuration containing 10 and
12 eDCPS cards is supported with eDCPS Capacity Increase feature.
When RNC is equipped with eDCPS cards, the number of TMUs supported are:
10 eDCPS with default (12), 14, 16,18, and 20 TMUs
12 eDCPS with default (14), 20, 24, and 26 TMUs
Application
This method is applicable for UA08.1 9370 RNC. The 9370 RNC configuration may
include a POC (Point of Concentration).
Standalone 15k POC, standalone 7k POC, and Access Node presented in this
document are for user reference only and not the part of 9370 RNC Market Packages.
This transport node may be based on Alcatel-Lucent platform (7670 RSP, 7670 ESE).
Equipment
This method applies to the Alcatel-Lucent 9370 RNC cabinet.
Service Impact
There is no service impact on initial sites.

ATM to IP transport evolution

Before the UA6.0 release, 9370 RNC supported ATM-based interfaces only (up to and
including the UA05.2 release). IP support was introduced in UA6.0 for hybrid IuB and
IuPS. IP support was further expanded to include IuB, IuR, and IuCS on IP in release
UA07.1. This evolution of the RNC interface capability is illustrated in Figure 1-1,
Release-based summary of ATM and IP transport introduction (p. 1-3).

Available modules and combinations

The Table 1-1, Hardware compatibility (p. 1-3) indicates possible combinations of
various cards, which can be used.

Transport protocol and cards

The images show the transport protocol as per the release/hardware compatibility.

Figure 1-2 Transport protocol and release compatibility

Figure 1-3 Hardware configuration as per transport protocol

All RNC interfaces were transported as ATM on Sonet OC3 (or ATM on SDH STM1) till
UA5.2 release.
The ATM user-plane transport used the following transport layers and protocols:
ATM-AAL2/Sonet (SDH) for IuB, IuR, and IuCS
IP/ATM-AAL5/Sonet (SDH)4 for IuPS
The ATM control-plane traffic was a mix of AAL5 (NBAP) and SS7 stacks both also
being carried on ATM-AAL5 /Sonet (SDH).
Release UA06 introduced Hybrid IuB and IuPS on IP/GE. For hybrid IuB, HSPA user
plane traffic was routed as UDP/IP/GE, whereas other user-plane traffic (voice and other
low bandwidth traffic) remained on ATM-AAL2/Sonet (SDH). All the IuB control-plane
traffic remained on the ATM/Sonet (SDH) transport. With UA06, in addition to the ATM
transport for IuPS, all user-plane and control-plane traffic could alternately be transported
over IP/GE.

24-3005 UA08.1
Issue 3.01 October 2012
Introduction to 9370 RNC 9370 RNC compatibility matrix

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Release UA07.1 introduced the support for IP/GE for the IuCS, IuR, and IuB (native IP
IuB) interfaces. With this release, it was possible to use hybrid (ATM and IP) connections
on the same RNC for any Iu interface.
IuB - An RNC can connect simultaneously to a NodeB with ATM-only connections, a
NodeB with hybrid (ATM and IP) connections, and a NodeB with IP-only
connections.
IuR - An RNC may have some neighboring RNC with ATM IuR connections and
others with IP IuR connections. Although a single RNC can support both ATM and IP
IuR connections, all connections between any two RNCs have to be either ATM or IP
based.
IuPS - Using IuFlex, an RNC can connect simultaneously to one (or more) SGSN
core with ATM connections and one (or more) other SGSN with IP/GE connections.
IuCS - Using IuFlex, an RNC can connect simultaneously to one (or more) MSC with
ATM/Sonet (SDH) connections and other MSC with IP/ GE connections.

Figure 1-4 ATM and IP interface

With the introduction of IP IuB, IuCS, IuR, and continued support for IuPS, it is now
possible to deliver an All IP UTRAN RNC. Replacement of two 16P OC3 (STM1) FP
cards with two Packet Server (PS) cards facilitates proportional growth in RNC capacity
from 10 to 12 PS cards.

eDCPS capacity increase

To activate the eDCPS Capacity Increase feature, the RNC must be equipped with eDCPS
boards only.
Note: See, Hardware applicability (p. 1-2) for supported configurations.
When the eDCPS Capacity Increase feature is activated, the following network changes
and configurations are applicable:
A service outage is implied.
There is no gain in maximum number of cells managed by an RNC in this release.

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Explanation: Each service group (SG) supports a maximum number of 144 cells,
which depends on the number of TMUs configured. For example, if the RNC is
equipped with 10 eDCPS cards and we have 12 TMUs (with 10 SGs), then the RNC
can manage a maximum of 1440 cells. Once ServiceGroup*144 crosses 2400-cell
mark on a RNC containing 10 eDCPS boards, the maximum number of cells managed
by the RNC in this configuration will be limited to 2400 cells.
Note: When the eDCPS Capacity Increase feature is not activated, an RNC equipped
with 10 eDCPS boards can support 2400 cells. For example, If the number of TMUs
is 14, then number of managed cells will be 2400; (12 SG * 204 2400 cells).
The number of service groups supported is described in the following table:

Table 1-2 NumberOfServiceGroups (default)

eDCPS NumberOfServiceGroup Service Group Id range

*
4 3 (0..2)
6* 5 (0..4)
8* 7 (0..6)
10 10 (0..9)
12 12 (0..11)

Notes:
1. * = Not supported when eDCPS capacity increase feature is activated.

Note: The values listed above are default values and used for commissioning purpose
only. In case of 10 and 12 eDCPS configurations, the actual number of service groups
are set based on the required configuration and capacity.

9370 RNC cabinet power on

Purpose
This procedure powers up the 9370 RNC cabinet.

Procedure
The steps for switching on the 9370 RNC cabinet are as follows:
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Ensure that all power breakers on each BIM are switched off.
Note: Risk of equipment damage by reverse polarity
Use the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols on the rear of the (BIP) to ensure that the
polarity of each A and B battery (-57/-43 V dc) and battery return for the input power
feeds is correct, the minus (-) is -48V and plus (+) is -48V return
When powering up the BIP, reversed polarity will damage circuits inside it the BIP
would have to be replaced.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 Verify on the rear of the cabinet that the voltage between the A1- and A1+ pair is negative
and ranges within:
Nominal power 48 Vdc: min. 40 Vdc max 57.6 Vdc refer to Figure 4-1, Verification
of the Range of VDC (p. 4-5)
Nominal Power 60 Vdc: min. 50 Vdc max 72 Vdc refer to Figure 4-1, Verification of
the Range of VDC (p. 4-5)
Note: The minus (-) is -48V and plus (+) is -48V return for nominal power 48 Vdc.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

3 Verify on the rear of the cabinet that the voltage between the B1- and B1+ pair is negative
and ranges within:
Nominal power 48 Vdc: min. 40 Vdc max 57.6 Vdc refer to Figure 4-1, Verification
of the Range of VDC (p. 4-5)
Nominal Power 60 Vdc: min. 50 Vdc max 72 Vdc refer to Figure 4-1, Verification of

Set time in the 9370 RNC

Purpose
This procedure sets the time on the 9370 RNC and can be executed locally or remotely.

Procedure
The steps for setting time in 9370 RNC are as follows:
...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Note: There are two options to configure the time zone on the network: all NE and
OAM are set to GMT time or all NE and OAM are set to the unique local time (even
if NE are in different time zone).
Check the time network choice: all NE to GMT or all NE to a unique local time
Set the date with the right time zone
To configure a local time zone on the RNC, first the RNC must be set to GMT with an
offset of 0 and then the operator modifies the offset to reflect the local time zone

Overview
The equipment described in this document generates, uses, and can radiate radio
frequency energy. If the equipment is not installed and used in accordance with the
instruction manual, the equipment can cause harmful interference to radio
communications.
There is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. To
determine whether this equipment is causing interference, the operator can turn the
equipment off and on. The operator is encouraged to correct any interference problems.
The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements have been selected to ensure an
adequate level of compatibility for apparatus in residential, commercial, and light
industrial environments.
Compatibility levels, however, do not cover extreme cases that can occur anywhere, but
that have a low probability of occurrence. In particular, they may not cover cases where a
source of interference that is producing repeated transient or continuous phenomena is
permanently present. This could include a radar or broadcast site in the vicinity. In such
cases, the operator can limit the source of interference and/or apply special protection to
the impacted equipment.
For the integrity of the product, the operator must wear the antistatic wrist strap at all
times while working with Alcatel-Lucent systems.
