What is new in CES EduPack 2012?

CES EduPack Software

1. New Eco Audit Summary Chart window launched automatically when a second Eco Audit
is started or by using the Summary chart button in the report section, this provides a
dynamic display of the life phase summary chart. Includes the following features:
o Option to display Energy (default) or CO2 Footprint
o Provides guidance on strategies for reducing the environmental impact of each phase
(accessed by clicking on the life phase bars)
o Enables results of multiple audits to be compared
o Options to print chart or copy chart ready for pasting into other applications
Multiple products, or audits, can be compared using the new Compare with button. This
enables the results of the existing product to be compared with a copy of itself, a new blank
product, or a saved product. This creates a new eco audit project and adds a series to the
summary chart. There is no limit on the number of products / audits that can be compared.
The difference in total environmental impact is shown by the % Change bar next to the chart
legend. This displays the change, relative to the first product, in first life Energy or
CO2 footprint. Note, this does not include the contribution from the End of Life (EoL)
potential phase.
The product definition screen for each product can be accessed by clicking on either the tab
for the product or the product name in the summary chart legend.

Benefits:
Clearly and easily demonstrate the influence of different product designs and life scenarios
on environmental impact
Get guidance on potential strategies for reducing the environmental impact of a product
2. New capability to flag / identify Favorite Records for example, commonly used
engineering materials or materials currently under discussion. Add records to the favorites list
using the Add to Favorites option in the right-click menu of the browse tree. Favorite records
are identified with a star icon wherever the record name appears in the application (browse
tree, results list, charts, etc.). Favorites can be readily identified on selection charts using the
new Show Favorites button on the graph stage toolbar.
Favorite lists can be exported, imported, cleared and assigned to a database using the
Favorites options under Tools on the main toolbar. You can also create a custom subset
based on your favorite records by selecting <Favorites> as the Initial subset in the Custom
Subset dialog.

Benefits:
Focus demonstrations on materials of interest, or relevance, to your course
Highlight the performance of your favorite materials compared to other materials
Create a library of favorite records for use in project work or teaching
Share your favorites list with colleagues and students

3. Hybrid Synthesizer the following developments have been made to the Hybrid Synthesizer
models, introduced in CES EduPack 2011:
o Sandwich panel model relative contribution of shear deflection in the core to the flexural
stiffness has been added as a note to the flexural modulus values
o Sandwich panel model expected failure mode has been added to the in-plane yield
strength value
o Composite (Simple Bounds) model added price calculation (based on the price of the
material constituents)

Benefits:
Get more information on the factors that limit performance of a sandwich panel by viewing the
contribution of the skin and core materials to the overall panel performance
Consider cost and demonstrate the performance vs. cost trade-off when teaching composite
materials

2
4. Enhanced usability the following new features simplify use of the software:
o Eco Audit button added to main application toolbar provides direct access to the tool
o Locate in Browse Tree added to all relevant right-click menus (search results, selection
results, chart labels, datasheets) highlights record position in the browse tree
o New tooltip added to record labels on charts. This displays the range and average values
for the plotted properties, providing direct access to the datasheet values
o Default name for Limit and Tree stage now lists the applied constraints particularly
useful when multiple stages have been defined
o Limit and Tree stage tooltip now lists all applied constraints (properties and values),
displayed on mouseover of stage name in stage list enables applied constraints to be
viewed without having to open stages
o Settings for the selection project results list are now saved and recalled from project files
o Show user-defined records button added to the graph stage toolbar enables rapid
identification of user-defined records on charts
o When editing user-defined records, all populated headers are now unrolled by default
o Default values have been added for compositional attributes (value = 0%). This enables
databases to be filtered correctly on maximum composition values
o Default chart axis scales have been added to attributes to prevent materials with zero
and negative values, which cannot be plotted on log scales, being excluded from charts.
This has been set to linear for the Galvanic potential (see item 10), Date first used (see
item 5) and Minimum service temperature attributes

Benefits:
Reduce the number of mouse clicks and enhance your user experience
