Abstract: Gastropods (snails or slugs) is a soft-bodied animal that has a shell and move using
stomach feet. Lack of attention to Gastropods caused less of scientific information obtained
from Gastropods. On the other hand, many community activities around the lake can cause
changes in the aquatic ecosystem of the lake so that the environmental condition around the
lake is getting disrupted. This study aims to know the diversity of Gastropods in Kerincis
lake, Jambi Province. This is descriptive quantitative research with purposive sampling as
technique used to select the sample. Observations were carried out by taking samples
Gastropods from 5 stations of different habitat conditions. Some environmental parameters
were measured including temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), BOD (Biochemical
Oxygen Demand), and the type of substrate. This research found that there is 1057
individuals from three families and nine species of Gastropods are Melanoides tuberculata,
Melanoides maculata, Melanoides sp., Thiara sp., Brotia castula, Filopaludina sumatrensis,
Filopaludina javanica, Filopaludina sp., and Pomacea canaliculata. Gastropods species
diversity index at the fifth station in a sequence are 1.02; 1.31; 1.32; 0.62; and 0.91.
Gastropods dominance index at the fifth station in a sequence are 0.47; 0.33; 0.31; 0.65; and
0.48. The dominance index value indicates the dominant species named Filopaludina
sumatrensis. Gastropods diversity in Kerincis lake, Jambi Province is H '= 0.62 to 1.32.
