Homeland Security Liaison Officers Conference

Andrew Writer

April 5-7 2016

Summary: While I was interning for the Arkansas State Fusion Center, I was working directly

under Department of Homeland Security agent Corrie Beaman. She was incredibly

knowledgeable and generous with her time, and provided me with numerous opportunities to

grow my list of contacts and make connections in my chosen career path. She granted me

clearance to attend this meeting, where local law enforcement and federal agents meet annually

to discuss news in their respective areas. It was a two day event that was eye opening,

informative, and exciting.

This experience:

1. Is / are relevant to emergency management (or a related) field because:

Homeland Security and Emergency Management often go hand in hand, and getting

to know all parties involved is key to being successful in our field.

2. Contribute/s to my knowledge, skills, abilities and/or perspective, because: I was

shown how interagency cooperation works in Arkansas, I learned who is responsible

for what, especially involving terrorism and the illegal drug trade. I made many

useful contacts with both federal and local people. I was given great career advice

that has shaped my future and hopefully will help me achieve my goals,

3. Complement/s, supplements, or conflicts with my coursework, research, and

other academic work, because: nothing can prepare you for a career field quite like

actually talking to those that are already there. This conference provided me with
knowledge of, not only the threats the state currently faces, but also the people that

are responsible for our safety.

4. Timeframe: 3 days

5. The attached image is a document that provides evidence of my experience that I

received during the conference:
