Motivation technique when student responses are incorrect

Use the following strategy when a student gives you an answer that is incorrect

Strategy:
1. Identify the question the student actually answered If you can.
2. Give hints and/or prompts
3. Dignify the students response and ask another student to help you out
Example:
Question:
o How many hours are in a working dayMary?
Answer:
o 4.
Response:
o You have stated how many hours are in half a working day.
o If you work 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon how many is that total (use hand
gestures also).
o You are very close lets see if John can help me outWhat do you think Mary?
