Dont Stop Believin - music

Anticipatory Set:
Army men Marching in time
Dancers moving at right time in a song
(Opera)Singing at the right time

Objective:
A: students
B will demonstrate correct rhythm patterns in the music and keep the tempo in their pieces
C: After students clap and count practice rhythms
D: play through rhythms three times without mistake

Relevancy:
Playing new articulation to help in other pieces. Concert piece.
Instructional Input:
Discussed and described the difference between eighth notes and quarter notes, and what happens
in a slur
Modeled:
Clapped and counted to show proper rhythm, shadow bowed, showed new clapping method for slurs
Guided Practice: clapping and counting, shadow bowing and group playing
Independent Practice: ~Students play the rhythm as a group
~Students are given tempo and count off
~Students are required to independently count and correctly perform note value
~Difficult sections are played and if there are mistakes, students continue in the
song with little disturbance
Disturbances are acted on and student shows effort in trying to fix it.

Assessment : Clapping and counting is correct. Intonation and rhythm is improved in playing. Well
enough understanding of music to know how to read it.

Closure: Whats the difference between a quarter note and eighth note?
NOTE: how long do you play it, how much bow is used. How do you count it?
What is a slur
Sponge: Students practice individually as I walk around to observe.
