STANDING
METHOD

5
STANDING METHOD
Proposed a procedure to predict the decline in the value of qo(max) as gas
saturation in the reservoir increases from depletion.

Vogels Equation:

= . .
()
(1)

6
STANDING METHOD
Pressure function:

=
..... (2)

The pressure function will change with depletion since and are
functions of , and is a function of oil and gas saturation.

Relationship between the present and future productivity Index (J) is

expressed as:

= ..... (3)

7
STANDING METHOD
qo(max) future :

=

..... (4)

Future IPR can be generated using equation below:

= . .

..... (5)

8
STANDING METHOD

Procedure to generate IPR using Standing Method:

1. Calculate using Equation 1

2. Use fluid property, saturation and relative permeability to calculate both

and using Equation 2

3. Calculate using Equation 4

4. Generate the future IPR using Equation 5

9
EXERCISE 1

Use the following data to generate a future IPR using Standing Method
Present Time Future Time
2250 psig 1800 psig
3.11 cp 3.59 cp
1.173 bbl/STB 1.150 bbl/STB
0.768 0.741
0.815 0.685
Present time test data:
= 400 STB/day
= 1815 psig
Generate IPRs for both the present and future times
10
FETKOVICH
METHOD

11
FETKOVICH METHOD
Construct future IPR by adjusting the flow coefficient C for the changes in
pressure.

Fetkovich assumed that the value of the exponent n would not change.
Hence, future IPR can be generated from:

=

12
EXERCISE 2

Construct an IPR for the time when PR has declined to

PRF = 2000 psia. The following data were obtained from previous class
exercise.

PRP = 3600 psia, n = 0.854, CP = 0.00079
