Energy Efficiency an Abundant Resource for Indonesias Industry

Invitation-only Workshop hosted by

Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources

and the International Energy Agency

22nd and 23rd November

Jakarta, Indonesia

Indonesian industry currently consumes nearly one-third of Indonesias final energy use. Unchecked
industrial growth, would increase industrial energy consumption to 122 Mtoe by 2025 if a business-
as-usual approach is taken. Improving industrial energy productivity could deliver 21 Mtoe of energy
savings which equates to about 36 Billion USD (480 trillion IDR) in total savings between 2016 and
2025.

Successful industrial energy management programmes from around the world have reduced energy
use and bills by 10% on average, doubling business as usual improvements in energy efficiency,
often through relatively low cost measures reducing waste, improving maintenance and finding
smarter ways to produce the product or service. Stepping back and looking through the energy lens
also typically generates savings in water use, labour productivity, capital and operational
expenditure and can often lead to broader productivity benefits such as improved product quality
and more reliable output. Programmes that provide financial incentives to implement longer
paybacks deliver even further benefits.

Low cost meters, sensors and monitoring systems enable innovative approaches to industrial energy
management while developing detailed understanding of processes that will be increasingly needed
for companies operating internationally in a low carbon economy.

This workshop aims to explore how Indonesias industrial energy efficiency programmes might
develop and adapt international experiences so that they are applicable to Indonesia and able to
deliver maximum benefits. The workshop will:

1. Explore the current state of play of Indonesias industrial energy efficiency initiatives and policies
2. Hear from industry & technology leaders
3. Hear from leading, high impact industrial energy management programmes from around the
world
4. Learn about mechanisms that have been successful in turning energy efficiency opportunities into
real energy savings or productivity improvements.
