Discourse Community Ethnography Reflection

For this particular assignment, I believe I achieved the purpose of the

assignment because I defined the vocabulary, I wrote the required number of pages

and I included two readings from the course that could relate to the topic. During

this assignment, I learned how to incorporate textual readings into an essay more

effectively and I gained some practice on writing a longer essay, for I had never

written a paper that was longer than two pages.

I lack the ability keep a focus when writing, which may have caused my paper to

lack quality, thus not achieving the criteria for the assignment. My lack of focus

allowed me to write the desired amount of pages, however this created a problem

by organizing the paper in order to have a better flow. When I submitted my draft

to the teacher, he gave me some feedback on how my paper could be altered to

make it better and he gave me advise on how to reduce my mistakes for the future.

My own revisions may have improved by finding sentences that could flow into the

next paragraph with ease. By paying attention to these fragments, I believe that my

second revision could have improved my essay by a great extent.

For this specific essay, I believe that the readings with punctuation tips were

the best help. This was the most important reading because this essay contained a

numbered list, which I was unaware as to how to include or advance after the list.

This reading, which I continuously reviewed, helped me to write my paragraphs so

that the list did not seem out of place and the essay made sense overall.
