Lesson Plan

Age/ Grade: 1st grade

Lesson Plan Title: Making a story as a group

Concept/Topic to Teach: Sentence structuring as a group, working together, and creativity.

General Goals: As a class to work together with creativity and create a story that is fun.

Showing children that learning can be fun. To teach sentence structuring.

Specific Objectives: Children will be able to use sentence structuring to create their own short

stories. Children will be able to use their creativity, and they will be able to answer questions on

how to use PowerPoint.

Required Materials: PowerPoint software, computer, Projection screen (so whole class can see

what is being typed on the computer).

Anticipatory Set: Class today we are going to use PowerPoint to write a story.

Step-by-Step Procedures:

Turn on PowerPoint

Select slide background by including students in the decision

Ask children to help create sentences by raising their hands or answer when called upon

Type sentences in the slides


At the end of each slide read the sentences aloud.

Show children how to change color of the background

Show children how to insert pictures to the story

End of story press play

Watch the presentation of the story students created

Plan for independent Practice: Children will write a short story on their own in their journals

every morning.

Closure: Present the story on PowerPoint to show the children the story they created.

Assessment based on objectives: Ask children questions on how PowerPoint was used. Ask

them questions on how to write a sentence.

Possible Connections to Other Subjects: Creative thinking, spelling and grammar.

Scenario: I have a child (girl) in my classroom that is slightly deaf. I will make sure that this

child is in the front of the classroom for our project and point to what we are doing so that she

can understand and visualize what we are creating. I will also let her write out her answer if it

makes her feel more comfortable.
