2. From the 2 main characters, who is religious and who is spiritual? Whats the
difference between being religious and being spiritual? (8-10 sentences)
Based on my own opinion, I believe that Elder Cunningham is the spiritual one and Elder
Price is the religious one. I think that to be religious is easy but to be spiritual is not. It is
because, I believe that being religious is to know and being spiritual is to believe. Elder Price
is religious because he knew a lot about the book of Mormon. I also understood at the beginning
of the play that elder Price was being recognized by the other members for his knowledge about
their religion and he was regarded as the best elder. Even if he knew a lot about the religion, he
wasnt strong enough to face problems to fight for it. Instead, he gave up and left the Uganda
tribe that they were supposed to convert. On the other hand, I believe that Elder Cunningham is
the spiritual one because even if he didnt know anything about the book, he believed in their
religion. He believed that he could convert and give hope to the people of Uganda. This made
me believe that he is spiritual but not really religious.
3. Based on the play, how does power of words make or break ones faith? (8-10
sentences)
I believe that the power of words can affect others faith. Elder Price tried to preach
about the book of Mormon but left the Uganda tribe bored and unentertained. On the other
hand, Elder Cunninghams imaginative words and stories influenced the tribe to become
Mormons. Even though almost all of them are lies, the tribe believed in him and his version of
Mormonism. He chose the right words to convince them to convert to Mormonism. I believe that
elder Cunninghams words made a religion because even if they were outrageous stories, there
were a little bit of basis of it from Mormonism. Words can really change ones perspective of
something. It may be good or bad. In this case, the people of Uganda started to believe in
Mormonism when the stories came from Elder Cunninghams chosen words.
