I. SUMMARY OF THE CASE
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. doing business as Walmart, is an American multinational retail
corporation that operates as a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and
grocery stores headquartered at Bentonville, Arkansas and founded by Sam Walton in 1962
and incorporated on October 31, 1969. Walmart is the world's largest company by revenue
and the largest private employer in the world. It is a publicly traded family-owned business,
as the company is controlled by the Walton family. It is also one of the world's most valuable
companies by market value, and is also the largest grocery retailer in the U.S. As of January
31, 2017, Walmart has almost 12,000 stores and clubs in 30 countries, operating under 63
different names.
