Write words in the blanks by following oral directions/ listening to the oral passage.
WIDA level: Level 3: Developing
Purpose/Objectives: The purpose of the Selective Listening is to evaluate the ability of the
student to listen to a pre-recorded segment while reading the passage and identifying which
words are missing from the passage. Micro skills they will require for this assessment are to
retain chunks of language of different lengths in short-term memory, and process speech at
different rates of delivery. A macro skill they will require for this assessment is to develop and
use a battery of listening strategies, such as detecting key words.

Directions in the student-friendly language. (Points): You need to listen to the text. Follow
along with the words on your paper and notice the blanks. These blanks represent words from the
passage that you will need to listen for and then write them in the blank. You can use the word
bank to help you fill in each blank. I will read the passage three times. The first sentence is the
example.
