Nicks New Apartment

By
Daniel Feldsien
INT. STUDIO APARTMENT - MORNING
An alarm clock BLARES, the face reading 9:15.

NICK (20) starts, laying awkwardly on his folded futon.

He straightens with a groan, and a three sharp pops from his
back. He swings his legs out, banging his shin on large,
opened box of books.

NICK
Gya!
He sleepily makes his way to the kitchen area.

He opens a cabinet over the stove. Empty.

He opens an adjacent cabinet, which has a half eaten-tray of
Oreos and half a loaf of bread.
He turns to see a small box on the counter, next to an aging
coffeemaker. He sighs and rifles through it.
He and pulls out a mug marked with the words Best in Show
and a small picture of him in a dog costume.
He pulls the coffee pot from the maker, only now noticing it
is completely empty.
With another sigh he replaces the pot and sets the timer on
the machine, a regular occurrence.
He checks his watch. 9:30.

NICK
Dammit!
He curses and digs through a cardboard box at his feet. He
throws aside an old and dented toaster.

He pulls a toaster pastry from the box and shoves into his
mouth raw.
He frantically searches for his jacket as he puts on a
stained T-shirt. He reaches at the air by his door. No coat
rack. He turns quickly, again stubbing his toe on the large
box of books.
NICK
Ah! Son of a-!

He pull his jacket out from under it with a sharp tug.

He stomps his feet into his boots by the door, and runs out.

INT. STUDIO APARTMENT - NIGHT

Nick returns from a long shift, exhausted, and kicks his
boots off behind the door. He closes it, leaving the room in
near darkness.

Nick throws his jacket and pants to their respective places

on the floor.
He exhales deeply and steps forward with a loud THUD,
hitting the unpacked box and a second THUD as he hits the
upright futon.
NICK
Ugh...
The futon falls down flat with a SCRAPE.

After a beat, the coffeemaker kicks in, making a loud

GURGLE.
The coffeemakers front lights up. 9:15.

Nick groans and turns away from the sharp, blue light, too
tired to deal with it.
