CZ USA The CZ Tactical Sport Orange (MRSP: $1,784) is a
refined competition pistol with a slim trigger guard, revised grip
geometry, thumb safety, fully adjustable sights and SAO trigger. It
is available in 9mm and .40 S&W with a 20+1 and 16+1 capacity,

AREX The Arex Rex Zero 1 is a totally new design made in

Slovenia using an all-metal frame, with 17+1 9mm capacity, in a
full size pistol. The Rex is a classically styled semi-automatic with an
exposed hammer-fired and DA/SA trigger. It is similar to a SIG P226
since it incorporates a decocker/slide stop, but the Rex also has an

COLT Colt has come out of the gate this year running and
gunning. The Competition Pistol (MSRP: $899) is a blued, full steel
pistol with a 5-inch barrel, fiber optic front sight, Novak rear sight,
G10 grips and is available in either 9mm or .45 ACP. The Combat
Unit Pistol (MSRP: $1,499) has a blackened stainless steel slide
and receiver. The receiver features a Picatinny-style rail to mount
accessories and has a fine 25 LPI checkering on the front strap. It is
available in .45 ACP. The Lightweight Commander (MSRP: $949)
returns with a black anodized aluminum receiver with serrations on MSRP: $865
the front strap. It is mated with a blued steel slide. Calibers available

A wide variety of new firearms broke cover at this
years SHOT Show, with everything from rimfire
repeaters to shotguns designed for female shooters.
Here are a few of the best new rile and scattergun
debuts for 2016.

which is held in Las Vegas, has become the launch pad for
new gun designs, and it offers an opportunity to track the
trends in the firearms market.
The toughest part of writing this article was winnowing down
the list of cool new guns to just these favorites. But the guns
that are shown here represent some fantastic new designs
and cover a lot of disciplines. Heres a look at several game-
changing long guns for 2016.
RUGER AMERICAN MAGNUM

SAVAGE A22
Last year Savage introduced the A17, a sem-iauto .17 HMR that had
been in the works for several years. For 2016, the company used that
same rifle design to develop the A22 in .22 WMR, a versatile and
underutilized target, varmint, and predator cartridge. It uses the A17s
hallmark delayed-blowback action design and comes with a rotary
magazine; a light, clean Accutrigger; a steel receiver; and a durable
synthetic stock. Best of all, if the new A22 is anything like its predeces-
sor in terms of accuracy (and theres no reason to think it wont be),
this rifle will be capable of printing tiny groups, making it an ideal
small game hunting rifle for all-day carry. Savage has been known for
years for producing accurate rifles at budget prices, and with an MSRP
below $500 this new semi-auto rimfire is well worth a look.

CZ 557 VARMINT
CZ has been producing a line of controlled round-feed riflestheir
550 linefor years. Recently, the brand has expanded its lineup of
bolt-action rifles to include the 557, the first push-feed centerfire in
the CZ lineup. That alone is substantial news for CZ fans, but the
company is also launching a series of specialty rifles based on the
new action design. One of those is the 557 Varmint, which utilizes
the 557 short action and comes with a target stock with a wide palm
swell, a precise adjustable trigger, two-position safety and integral
19mm dovetail scope bases that are machined into the receiver. The
25.6-inch cold hammer forged barrel has a heavy profile that narrows
CZ 557 to .863 inches at the muzzle, making this 11-pound rifle a serious
Varmint long-range weapon whether you are engaging targets or big game.

of many new reloading tools, I always keep
a good balance beam scale on my bench.
Whether checking powder charges, weighing
bullets, or in some cases weighing out cases,
I like to have the capability of measuring the
weights of things using good old-fashioned
gravity. Simply put, gravity never wears out,
and while no measuring tool is perfect, a bal-
ance beam will offer the least amount of error
and is least susceptible to outside forces. The

but this year the company is launching a version that

The brand that brought us inertia expanded its Ethos
line to include a new 28-gauge version. Like the other
Ethos guns in the Benelli line, the Ethos 28 has an AA
grade satin walnut stock with the recoil-absorbing
Progressive Comfort system, engraved nickel receiver
and a cryogenically treated barrel for maximum pattern
conformity. And, also like the other Ethos guns, it has a
specially designed rotating bolt that makes it all but im-
possible to lower the bolt without rotating the bolt head
into battery, a problem for some inertia guns. But what
sets the Ethos 28 apart from all other 28-gauge guns
in the market is the fact that it has a 3-inch chamber.
That adds to the gauges versatility; this 5-pound Italian
shotgun is now not only perfect for quail and doves,
but with 3-inch magnums, it can handle hard-flying
Midwest pheasants and early-season teal. Sleek, light,

Technically speaking, ladies versions of shotguns are
nothing new, but in the past the formula to create a
shotgun for female shooters has been to chop the stock
down and, in some cases, dress the gun in pink. But
serious female shooters werent too impressed. The
Franchi Catalyst guns, however, have stock geometry
that was developed with female shooters in mind. The
Affinity Catalyst utilizes the proven inertia-operated
action from the companys standard Affinity shotgun,
and the 12-gauge Catalyst version weighs 6.6 pounds
