ICT Adoption to Date

In June 2017, there are 450 pupils enrolled in St. Patricks SNS, a co-Educational Primary school in
Skerries, Co. Dublin. Our role number is 16332O. The school is a senior school that serves children of the
local town and its surroundings. We have been using ICT prior to 2000. In 2008 every classroom was
equipped with a deskop computer. In 2012 every classroom got wifi, teacher laptops and projectors. This
was a major step forward for the school as all teachers could then use ICT as part of their teaching and
the students learning. In 2013, Microsoft came to the school to donate refurbished laptops and to service
the desktops that were already in each classroom. Following this contribution, the school then had 10
laptops for discretionary use. These have been mostly used for the students to do typing and project work
on.

The school has participated in two fundraising events to raise money to purchase interactive whiteboards
and new projectors for each of the mainstream classrooms. St. Patricks Senior National School aims to
provide our students with a broad ICT education, preparing them to be confident, independent ICT users
when they leave us for secondary school.

With regards to training staff members, most teachers received ICT instruction whilst completing their
Bachelor of Education degrees. Teachers who had the greatest interest in ICT acted as leaders to mentor
those who requested assistance. Educational software programmes were selected to use with the
students to further their knowledge and interaction with ICT as part of everyday learning within the
school.
