This past 2017, based on the June 2016 survey of what our beloved Beacon Hill
needs and wants, we influenced developers to include low
income/affordable housing in their projects, worked on anti-displacement, and
advocated for the resolution of our air and noise pollution concerns and the
resolution of many other issues.
2018 will be more challenging. As you know, we are appealing the Mandatory
Housing Affordabilty (MHA) Environmental Impact Statement to have the
City use good planning practices, reduce cut through traffic on Beacon Hill from
the I-5, Rainier/MLK and Sodo, and address our air and noise
pollution environmental justice concerns. Most importantly, we need to advocate
for the percentage of low income housing that will be required for
development projects located within the urban village and in MHA designated
areas.
To get ready for 2018, our Board will have a retreat on January 9 to strategize
and organize ourselves to be even more effective. So, see you on Tuesday
February 6 at 6:30 for our first Beacon Hill Council Community Meeting of the
year.
Sincerely,
Beacon Hill Council Board
