Second Harvest Food Bank ignites passion for Ball State student
MUNCIE, Ind., -- Second Harvest has been giving back to the community for more than
30 years. In order to provide food to families in need, Second Harvest strives for a healthy
relationship with its volunteers. Ball State junior, Lexi Harmacinski, has volunteered at Second
Harvest for three years and has allowed the organization to impact her future.
“I have learned that there are people in this world that need help, and it doesn’t take a
significant amount of time or money to help them,” Harmacinski said. “Second Harvest has
taught me to be a contributing person to this community and that I can make an impact as an
individual no matter what amount of time, money, or service I can give to those in need.”
Since volunteering at Second Harvest, Harmacinski has been committed to this cause and
was elected as the community service chair for her sorority. She has also planned community
service events for volunteers to pack lunches for children in the Muncie school district.

there are people who are in need of food to feed themselves and their loved ones. Seeing how my
services impact people at a local level makes me feel more inclined to serve as an individual. It is
amazing seeing how beneficial it is for people in our community.”
As a business administration major at Ball State, Harmacinski hopes to continue to give
back even after her time at Ball State is over. She said that volunteering has shaped her entire
collegiate experience.
“Working with Second Harvest has truly been eye opening for me. Before college I never
would have considered working in the nonprofit sector,” Harmacinski said. “It is my goal to find
a job in this industry after I graduate. I would love to help manage a nonprofit, especially one
