The Clinical Epidemiology Course last year (ClinEp2) was

somewhat challenging for me, as I couldn’t really grasp the real-world
application that much. Yes, I understood the lectures, I was able to
answer the examination questions and in theory I know the
application but it remained at that. Until this year, in Clinical
Epidemiology 3, I felt the department really made it possible for
students like me to understand the concrete application of what we
learned last year and are continuing to learn this year. I felt the role-
playing portion and us actually appraising an article really made a
difference. I learned the proper way to search for literature on
PubMed, on the specifics of the different search parameters in
applying the PIOM, using MeSH and more importantly I learned a lot
from the other group’s presentations of their critical appraisal,
concepts that we will surely apply when it will be our turn to present.
Some topics I admit I am a little rusty on and there are some
concepts during presentations that I do not follow that well. To
address this I will read on the book we bought during our first year
from the department and study how to properly appraise an article
using different Evidence-Based Medicine Critical Appraisal literatures
then ask during the discussions the things I still can’t quite
understand.
