FINDINGS

Additionally, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the pigging of pipelines interviews as well

as questionnaires will be given out to people who are knowledgeable about the cleaning of

pipelines. The pigging of pipelines falls under hydraulic cleaning whereas there are different

methods such as mechanical and chemical cleaning. To evaluate the effectiveness of the

pigging of pipelines a total of 45 questionnaires and surveys will be given out.

Participants are asked why pipelines are needed and majority of the respondents will be

expected to say that they are needed for the transport of oil and gas. Additionally, when

respondents are asked about the integrity of the pigging of pipelines and if they find it to be

an effective method, it is expected that 99% of the respondents will agree that it is an

effective method. The 1% that disagree may be due to lack of certainty and insufficient

information on how the procedure of pigging of pipelines work.

From the 99% of persons who will agree that pigging of pipeline is an effective method

approximately 85 % of the participants will agree that pigging of pipeline is a better cleaning

method than mechanical and chemical cleaning whereas 8% and 6% of the respondents will

agree that mechanical and chemical are more effective methods respectfully . The other 15 %

will disagree that pigging of pipeline is necessary. This may be due to lack of knowledge of

pipeline pigging and the procedure carried out in cleaning the pipelines.

It can be concluded that in the findings 85% of the respondents will agree that pigging of

pipelines is the most effective method, whereas 15 % will disagree. 95% of the respondents

will agree that persons conducting the pigging of pipelines should take full precautions and

safety hazards whereas the other 5 % will think it’s safe to conduct the pigging process

without safety precautions.

From the questions listed it is expected that majority of the participants will know what is pigging of
pipelines. Also after thorough information it will be concluded that the pigging of pipelines is the
most effective method of cleaning pipelines. It is also apprehended that the participants will be able
to at least define two means of cleaning pipelines.
