MILL DEPARTMENT

The mill operation involves 2 main processes namely cane preparation and cane crushing.

The operation starts when the trucks dump the sugar canes in the dump pit which is
connected to a cane carrier (slats conveyor). The cane passes through 2 sets of cane leveler and 3
sets of canning knife which are motor driven. It then passes through a unigrator where the
unigrated cane is delivered to the mill for cane crushing by a unigrated cane elevator.

For the juice extraction (crushing), the sugar canes passes through 5 sets of Mill, namely,
Mill 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The juice extracted from mills 1 and 2 are conveyed directly by the cush-
cush conveyor 1 to the mixed juice tanks while the juice from mills 3, 4 and 5 are pumped back
to mills 2, 3 and 4 for maceration purposes. Only Mill 5 uses imbibition water.

For Mill 1, the total percentage of juice extracted is 77 % while 8 %, 5%, 3.5% and 2.3%
juice for the succeeding mills. The total juice extracted in the mill department is approximately
95.80 %.

Meanwhile, the bagasse (fiber) from mill will be used as boiler fuel to produce steam and
power. The brix of the bagasse should be less than 3% and the moisture content should play
around 48% to 50% before it enters the bagasse main elevator (BME) and to be used as the fuel
to heat up the boiler.

Milling capacity is about 7,200 tons cane per day.
