COSTUME GUIDELINES

What to wear under your tatters


General Look
Goth, Steampunk, Pagan, Victoriana. Formal dress mixed with burlesque, frills and big boots, all in
black and purple. The purple should be a “Cadbury” purple to give a uniform look. Women may wear
“boys” kit if desired.

Girls Kit Boys Kit


 A corset or close-fitting top in purple  Purple shirt
and/or black  Black trousers
 A black or purple net-petticoat-style skirt  Tailcoat if the weather is cold
or other skirt of a similar shape, around enough
knee length – we aim for an hourglass/in-  Big black or purple boots! (Doc
and-out shape Marten style)
 Bloomers if desired
 Black/purple/fishnet tights if the weather
is cold enough
 Tailcoat if the weather is cold enough
 Big black or purple boots! (Doc Marten
style)

Headwear
Formal hats in black or purple (ie top hat, bowler etc.) are encouraged. These can be decorated with
ribbon/lace/feathers/badges etc.

Faces
Facepaint, fully or partially black or with purple, or a black and purple mask – the traditional black
painted face was used to disguise your identity so this is something to bear in mind. Sunglasses do
not constitute a mask.

Tatters
Tatters have a black base layer and are made from black and purple cotton/poly-cotton. Individual
elements such as lace/shiny bits can be included.
