This project analyzes drilling performance and verifies drillhole deviation using an SDF Inclinometer. This prevents excessive drillhole depth, irregularities on walls, flyrocks, and angular deviation. Drillholes often deviate gradually along their depth during bench drilling. The inclinometer verifies possible deviations and obtains 3D bench face readings and spacing between collars and the face, important since the face is irregular. Measured spacing affects explosive action, resulting in overthrow, increased costs, and reduced safety. The inclinometer promotes blast optimization by reducing overthrow risks and achieving adequate blasts with less boulders, vibration, and noise. The project occurred at a LafargeHolcim quarry in Ca

This graduation project presents the analysis of the drilling performance
and also the verification of drillholes deviation through SDF Inclinometer. This evaluation process prevents many factors as excess depth inside the drillholes, remaining irregularities on the walls, flyrocks and angular deviation. Throughout the drilling process on the bench, it is common to occur drilling deviations that gradually grow along the depth of the drillhole. Besides verifying possible drilling deviations, other data can be obtained on site, as the 3D bench face reading using a laser distance measurer, obtaining the spacing between the collars in the first row and the bench face. It is important to say that the bench face is not always regular, hindering the measurement of the actual spacings between collars and the bench face. Therefore the explosive action will vary according to the measured spacings, resulting in boulder generation or overthrow and thus raising the operational costs and reducing mine security. The SDF Inclinometer is an equipment that promotes the blast optimization, not only reducing overthrow risks but also the goal of achieving an adequate blast, reducing boulder excess, vibration and terrain noise. The project activities were performed at LafargeHolcim’s quarry, situated in Caaporã/PB - Brazil.
