Dear$First$Grade$Families, Math: measuring$a$path,$comparison$number$

Weather$is$such$an$important$factor$in$the$world$ stories,$2Xdigit$addition$and$subtraction
around$us$and$affects$us$on$a$daily$basis.$It$affects$ How$you$can$help:$$drill$and$practice$addition$
the$clothes$we$wear,$the$activities$we$do,$and$it$ and$subtraction$within$10.$Your$child$should$be$
affects$plants$and$animals. able$to$fluently$answer$questions$within$10.

Last$week$students$were$introduced$to$weather$
forecasts,$and$the$tools$that$meteorologists$use$to$
forecast$the$weather.$
For$the$month$of$February,$I$will$be$asking$you$and$
your$children$to$record$the$weather$at$home$for$
homework$on$the$attached$calendar.$You$should$be$
recording$temperatures,$and$if$the$weather$is$sunny,$
rainy,$windy,$cloudy,$or$partly$cloudy;$try$to$think$of$
symbols$for$each$type$of$weather.$$At$the$end$of$the$
month,$count$up$the$total$days$for$each$weather$
pattern.$We$will$be$using$this$data$for$a$graphing$
activity$and$to$look$at$patterns.$Use$the$internet,$
thermometers$and$your$eyes$to$collect$this$data.$
