Test Pharmacological Effect of Ethanolic Extract of Eugenia polyantha Leaves as for Decreasing
Glucose Level Activity on Mice Induced by Alloxan
Abstract
The aim of this study was to know the pharmacological effect of salam leaves on mice which
would be focused on the effect in decreasing blood glucose level on mice induced alloxan.
Material use in this research was ethanolic extract of leaves of Eugenia polyantha. Two kg of
powdered dried leaves of Eugenia polyantha was macerated with ethanol. The ethanolic extract obtained
was used to decreasing glucose level activity using alloxan induced mice. Fourty five male mice were
divided into 3 group i.e group I, II, and control. Alloxan was given every 4 days at the dose of 100 mg
mg/kg BW i.p. The ethanolic extract then given orally for 7 consecutive days in the dose 2,62 mg (group
I) and 5,24 mg/20 g BW (group II) from the 9 th day to 15th day. Decrease of glucose levels were calculated
from the 8th day to 15th day. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and LSD tests to compare groups I, II,
and control. Based on the data analysis, there were a significance differences (p = 0,05) between group I
and control, group II and control. But, there was no significance difference between group I and group
II.
The result of this study showed that ethanol ic extract of Eugenia polyantha leaves decreased
glucose level of alloxan mice at the dose 2,62 mg/20 g BW and 5,24 mg/20 g BW.
