RMF FACULTY SCHOOL OUTREACH
We believe that we can bring positive change
in communities nationwide. Throughout the
year our Faculty Artists present concerts,
masterclasses, and educational programs
for young students in both public and
private schools. This year, RMF Faculty Artists
performed and worked with 16 classes of
students at schools in:

EURHYTHMICS
NEW IN 2018
ABOUT THE METHOD
The comprehensive Dalcroze
approach consists of three
components: Eurhythmics, which
teaches concepts of rhythm,
structure, and musical expression
through movement; Solfège, which
develops an understanding of pitch,
scale, and tonality through activities
emphasizing aural comprehension
and vocal improvisation; and
Improvisation, which develops
an understanding of form and
meaning through spontaneous
musical creation using movement,
voice and instruments. It was
Dalcroze’s intent that the three
subjects be intertwined so that the
development of the inner ear, an
inner muscular sense, and creative
expression can work together to
form the core of basic musicianship. DAILY CLASSES FOR RMF STUDENTS

“The Rushmore Music Festival has given me a broader
knowledge and understanding of music, and has truly
helped me develop as a young musician. Practicing with
our chamber groups was an unique experience for me,
and gave me an opportunity to work on my leadership and
performance skills, while maintaining a fun and engaging
environment. The faculty was extremely helpful, and always
gave me constructive criticism on my playing. My overall
opinion of the Rushmore Music Festival is overwhelmingly
positive, and it allowed me to advance as a developing
musician.”

HOW WE ARE MAKING
A DIFFERENCE
Let’s be honest. There are a number of festivals out
there for young musicians, so you might ask yourself
—how is the Rushmore Music Festival any different?
There are Suzuki camps, which are geared for beginner-
intermediate level students studying the Suzuki method.
There are orchestra festivals that focus on orchestral
playing while not providing students individual attention.
Then, there are many high-level, intensive festivals
focusing on solo and chamber music that are exclusively
reserved for already accomplished musicians, such as
Yellowbarn, Kneisel Hall , Heifetz, Meadowmount, and
Taos, among others.
But what about all of those other students in the middle,
who maybe didn’t start with the Suzuki method; or
started later on in school; who maybe do not want to
play in an orchestra and want to explore chamber music
or focus on solo performance; or maybe are not yet
advanced enough to attend the competitive, high-level
festivals?
We want to reach those students. We want to give them
an experience tailored to their developing needs as
young artists. With multiple hours per week of one-on-
one lessons with faculty, we not only give our students
access to study with today’s leading teaching artists, but
provide them with opportunities to be inspired by a peer
group of like-minded individuals; a musical community
where excellence and hard work feed off of one another
to give these students a new perspective on the role that
music plays in their life. We want them to see our faculty
perform each week and get inspired by the experience,
while cherishing these moments with their new friends.
Now going into our fourth year, we are already seeing
some beautiful results. Several of our students placed
1st chair in their local youth orchestras, won concerto
competitions, and have even formed their own chamber
music groups. Parents tell us that they have never seen
their kids be more inspired and self-motivated just after
one summer. For us, it is music to our ears. Thank you
for helping us continue on our journey to making a
difference.
